Source text - English During the 1980s, the concept of quality improvement began to gradually replace the concept of scientific management. This concept is credited to W. Edwards Deming and Joseph Juran, who used the quality improvement philosophy to revitalize the economy of Japan after World Warr II. This concept combines quality control with an overall management philosophy that gives input to all persons involved in the process of creating the specific good(s) or service(s). Many diagnostic imaging departments have been systematically monitoring their equipment and procedures (quality control) since the 1930s, independent of any goverment regulation or accreditation agency. The main motivations were to save money and increase efficiency and quality of care. Since then, govermental action and policies mandated by accreditation agencies have all but required that an extensive quality management program be implemented by diagnostic imaging departments. In 1992, the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals, published by The Joint Commission, began a multiyear transition to standards that emphasize performance improvement concepts inspired by the work of Deming and juran.

Edwards Deming y Joseph Juran, quienes usaron la filosofía de la mejora de calidad para revitalizar la economía de Japón después de la segunda guerra mundial. El concepto combina el control de calidad con la filosofía de gestión en general, que da un registro para todos las personas involucradas en el proceso de crear un producto o servicio en particular. Muchos departamentos de imágenes han estado monitoreando sus equipos y procedimientos sistemáticamente (control de calidad) desde la década de 1930, independiente de cualquier regulación gubernamental o agencia de acreditación. Las motivos principales eran ahorrar dinero e incrementar la eficiencia y calidad de la atención. Desde ese entonces, las políticas y las medidas gubernamentales exigidas por las agencias de acreditación han requerido que se implemente un programa de gestión de calidad en los departamentos de imagenología casi en su totalidad. En 1992 los Estándares de Acreditación de Hospitales, publicada por The Joint Commission, dio inicio a una transición plurianual de estándares que enfatizan los conceptos de mejora de desempeño inspirados en el trabajo de Deming y Juran.
