Long love for language, short career for translation - I've thought the language is tool, not purpose for its sake. So before 3-years of translation career, I have been social-science and international-studies researchers doing all kinds of mulilingual tasks - survey design for Latin American societies in Spanish, analyzing response style difference between France and French-speaking Africans. Discourse analyses based on English, French and Japanese (especially for studies of macro-sociological theories). So when simply looking at my profile, I might look like a translation beginner. But my previous researcher-career in multiple langugages inspire me to see the different nuisances and expression-style, and many other details beyond common knowledge, when translating from a language to the other.
