Translation - Spanish To whom I may concern,
My name is Diana Laura Olmedo Mendez, I am 24 years old, I'm Mexican; I was born in Distrito Federal. My parents are divorced since I was one year old, nevertheless we all live in harmony. My mom's name is Maritza, she's a university Math professor and my dad is an architectural engineer, he's name is Jose. Due to their occupations, they live in different places. I have three brothers; I'm the middle and only sister. My older brother Jozsef is 28 years old, Josue is 19 years old and Samuel is 14 years old, as my parents used to work, I was in charge of taking care of my younger brothers, that's how I found out that I like taking care of children; I found out I had the facility of making them smile, care for them, making and decorating their food so they could eat well while having fun. I graduated from the Animation and Digital Design degree; I currently have a part time job at an advertisement agency called Trazo here in Queretaro, and I also work as a teacher in a Kindergarten called Little Steps.
I'm a hardworking, cheerful, enthusiast and very patient woman. Punctuality, honesty, respect and fulfill my obligations with love and dedication are part of my family values. I love going cycling with my family, skating, playing basketball on weekends, and hanging out with my friends at downtown. In my free times I also enjoy playing the ukelele, learning French, painting and drawing.
I chose the Au Pair program because since I was a child I had the illusion of knowing a new culture and way of thinking. In addition I would love to improve my English for personal purpose and because it would be very helpful to my design career. And when I found out that the program was about the two things I love the most: taking care of children and learn another language, I immediately wanted to participate. I think and believe this program will have an enormous impact in the person I am because I will have the opportunity of knowing the US, its people, habits, traditions and taking the best of that to apply it to my daily life and my work when I come back to my country.
In my experience taking care of children I can say my two younger brothers were my beginning, but when my little brother was born, I was more involved in his growth and care. Since then I learned the primary care of a baby: changing diapers, feeding him, watch him out while crawling, bathing him, taking him to school, until he was 7 years old. I learned to observe that children have an impressive ability because they explore and learn everything, they are very creative and I really like being part of that growth. When I was in high school I started to work in a painting workshop for six to fourteen years old children, called El Faro. There I was in charge to teach them painting techniques, integrating them through a game and improving their creativity in painting, sculpturing and drawing. At that time I comprehend that children love to learn and making crafts, that every child has their own personality and creativity; I found out that art can help children to relax; during the workshop I learned abilities and skills to make them get along and share together and I loved to see their happy faces when they achieved every artistic work. Their achievements were also mines because I was part of them.
My plan of work is the following: if the children are younger than two years, I will be working on the motility and help the baby to crawl, exercising their hands and legs, using their toys to help them in this process; read them a book, playing learning music, encouraging them to talk, I could even sing a song with the ukelele and cook healthy baby cereals for them. With children of two to six years old I will work on the cognitive area (teach them the vowels, consonants, playing table games; all of that to help them exploring their curiosity and learn from it. I'm planning working on the fine motility: buttoning, follow lines so they can learn how to hold a pencil or to draw. I will use activities that might help in the development of their fingers and hands movement to grab things. As well as the gross motility: go up and down the stairs, jump, dance, go out to play at the park; any physical activity that can help with the development of their coordination. I will also work with their perception: identify hot and cold things, playing with soap bubbles, treasure hunt, listen to different sounds so they can identify and differentiate them. I faithfully believe that learning should be accompanied by fun. With six years old children in ahead I could take them to museums, and making other activities like painting, play with water balloons, have a picnic outdoors, play soccer, basketball or table games, go to swim, have a night camping indoors, help them with their homework, cook something together, be someone they can trust and support them.
My plans for the future are to establish at Mexico City, look for an apartment and live by my own, since the Au Pair experience will give me wisdom and independence. Later, I will find a job regarding my career and come back to study an Animation master degree in the US, because I will have reinforce the language. I think this experience could help me to improve my English, to speak it more fluid, in addition the fact to being Au Pair is going to allow me to know other cultures for my personal development.
I will be glad of knowing you and be part of your family, I will like to support and enrich my knowledge with yours. I just need one chance, you won't regret. Thank you!
Sincerely,
Diana.
