Source text - German EIN BIEST ENTSTEHT
80er Jahre in den USA. Irgendwo im Nirgendwo wächst ein Biest heran. Um genau zu sein in Webster, South Dakota. Eine Kleinstadt, so ländlich, dass es keine große Stadt im Umkreis als Orientierungspunkt gibt. Country-Leben durch und durch. Lesnar wächst auf einer Ranch auf. Ein Kleinstadtjunge vom Land. Seine Eltern besitzen eine Milchviehfarm und sagen, dass Brock schon mit vier Jahren auf der Ranch mithelfen wollte.
Seine Eltern wirken herzlich. Unauffällig. Wie normale Amerikaner in einer small-town. Aber schnell wird klar, dass Brock Lesnar überhaupt nicht normal ist. Andere mobben ihn in der Schule. Prügeleien auf dem Pausenhof waren nicht ganz ungewöhnlich für ihn. Vor seiner Jugendphase war er dünn und noch nicht besonders stark. Jugendliche nannten ihn Brokkoli und sagten, sein Geschmack wäre furchtbar. Er hatte Angst vor dem Jungen, der ihn so nannte. Später freundeten sie sich an. Und Lesnar wird selbst zum Mobber. Ab dem Alter von 14 legt er Muskeln zu. Ständig ist er draußen, arbeitet hart, ist so aktiv, dass sein Körper gar nicht anders kann, als Muskeln aufzubauen. Er isst mehr als alle anderen, auch als die Erwachsenen.
JUNGE AGGRESSION
Mit der neuen Masse kam Kraft. Und er ließ sich nichts mehr gefallen. Eine Haltung, die für den Rest seines Lebens bleiben sollte. Wer ihm blöd kam, den vermöbelte er. Er sagt von sich, er sei ein sehr aggressives Kind gewesen. Auch sein Ringer-Coach erzählt, Lesnar hätte eine aggressive Seite, ein starkes Temperament. Andere Kinder hatten Angst, gegen ihn zu ringen. Denn Lesnar nahm das Ganze ernst, langte zu und wollte unbedingt gewinnen. (TON)
Seine Einstellung ist voller Ehrgeiz. Ein Ehrgeiz, dem Befindlichkeiten von anderen völlig egal sind. Dabei sein ist für ihn nicht alles. Für ihn steht beim Sport auch nicht der pädagogische Mehrwert im Vordergrund. Er will gewinnen. Und er liebt das Gefühl, stärker zu sein als andere. Sich körperlich über andere zu stellen. Kurz gesagt: Er liebt es zu kämpfen. In einem Interview sagt er, er sei geboren um zu kämpfen.
KÄMPFER DURCH UND DURCH
Lesnar ist ein Kämpfer. Als er in der High School nach seinem Traumjob gefragt wird, ist er überfordert. Seine Klassenkameraden sprechen von der Feuerwehr oder von einem Studium im College. Lesnar ist anders. Seine Arbeit soll mit Kämpfen zu tun haben. Deshalb tritt er mit 17 dem Militär bei. Seine Familie und Heimatstadt ist stolz auf ihn. Soldaten haben in den USA einen sehr guten Ruf. Aber Lesnar war der gute Ruf nicht so wichtig. Er wollte kämpfen. Bei der Armee angekommen läuft allerdings alles anders, als erwartet. Lesnar landet in einem Bürojob aufgrund seiner Farbschwäche.
Lesnar ist farbenblind. Er hat eine rot-grün-Schwäche. Kann rot und grün kaum auseinanderhalten. Richtig und falsch manchmal auch nicht. Immer wieder ist er in Schlägereien verwickelt. Er liebt das Kämpfen noch immer. Er liebt das Gefühl immer noch, sich körperlich über andere zu stellen. Das hat er, wenn er wieder eine Barschlägerei gewinnt. Aber im Militärbüro nicht. Deshalb hört er auf. Ist orientierungslos. Weiß nicht wohin mit ihm und beginnt bei einer Baufirma. Ein typischer Kleinstadt-Job. Nine to five, Leben für den Feierabend, Bier am Wochenende mit den Jungs. Aber im Job von Montag bis Freitag fühlt er sich nicht lebendig.
DURCHBRUCH
Denn auch auf dem Bau kann er sich körperlich nicht über andere stellen. Also ist der nächste Stopp das College. Studieren ist gar nichts für Lesnar, er lässt die ganzen Kurse und Vorlesungen ausfallen, macht nie einen Abschluss, aber trotzdem ist die College-Zeit für ihn eine gute Zeit. Denn er kann sich körperlich über andere stellen im Amateur-Wrestling. An der University of Minnesota gewinnt Lesnar im Jahr 2000 die NCAA-Ringermeisterschaft. Das ist kein kleiner Erfolg, sondern ein Riesenschritt. Er ist jetzt der beste Ringer in den USA innerhalb seiner Altersgruppe und Gewichtsklasse. Das Studium war also ein echter Erfolg für Lesnar. Er geht ohne Abschluss raus, aber dafür mit einem Wrestling-Angebot von WWE.

His parents seem warm. Unassuming. The average small town folk. But it soon became clear that their child was anything but ordinary. Brock was bullied in school; he got into scrapes regularly. Like many kids, he was thin and stringy, too weak to defend himself. Kids called him "Broccoli"… and nobody liked broccoli. Lesnar was afraid of the boys who called him names. Later, they became his best friends, and Lesnar became a bully himself. From the age of 14, he started gaining muscle. He was always outdoors, working hard, pushing himself so hard physically that his body couldn’t help but build muscle. He also ate more than the other kids, and even most adults.
CHILDHOOD AGGRESSION
With his new size came strength. Brock was confident, he wouldn't take anything from anyone anymore - an attitude that would stay with him for the rest of his life. If someone got on his nerves, his default response was to beat them up. Brock says he was a very aggressive child, his wrestling coach says he was hard to reign it at times, and that he had a short temper. The other kids were scared of him. No one wanted to get in the ring with him, because Lesnar took it seriously. He put in the effort, and he really liked to win. (AUDIO)
His mindset is filled with ambition. An ambition to put himself above the competition, to come out on top. It’s not enough to participate, Lesnar needs to win. He doesn’t care about the educational aspect of sports, and he doesn’t care about other people’s feelings. What motivates Lesnar is the feeling of being stronger. Physically dominating others. In short: he loves to fight. In an interview, he says he was born to fight.
BORN TO FIGHT
Lesnar is a fighter. When people ask him what he wants to do with his life, he’s stumped. All his classmates talked about being a lawyer or going to college. But not Lesnar. He wants a job that involves fighting. So at 17, he joins the military. As a soldier, he would defend the freedom of his country with his life. His family is proud of him. But Lesnar doesn’t understand why all of a sudden, he should be treated as a hero. All he wanted was a challenge, and the opportunity to do what he does best, and get paid to do it. However, when he is called in for his military service and is subjected to routine health tests by the medical personnel, things take an abrupt turn. And Lesnar is assigned an office job due to his color deficiency.
Lesnar has trouble distinguishing red from green, and at times, right from wrong. Again and again, he gets himself into trouble. He still loves fighting. He still loves the feeling of physically domineering others. He gets that thrill from winning a bar fight. But not from doing paperwork in the military office. So, he quits. He's disoriented. Doesn't know where to go or what to do. Eventually he starts working for a construction company. A typical small-town job. Nine to five, living for the weekend, for the beer at the bar and the rambling conversations that lead nowhere. Only to dream, in a restless sleep, of a purpose.
BREAKTHROUGH
The next stop: college. To say the least, Lesnar isn’t the studying type. He skips lectures, doesn’t turn in his assignments, and never actually graduates. Still, his time in college did wonders for him, because he got back into amateur wrestling. At the University of Minnesota, Lesnar won the NCAA wrestling championship in 2000 – a huge success. Now considered the best wrestler in his age group and weight class, Lesnar leaves college, not with a slip of paper, but with a contract offer from WWE.
