De Militari Usu
Antiquo modo igitur milies in quincuncem dispositi
Dulce cum sodalibus
Sapit vinum bonum;
Dulcius est donum;
Donum est dulcissimum
Lyra ceu Maronum:
Si his tribus gaudeam
Sperno regis thronum.
Pax multa in cella, foris autem plurima bella.
Per astra ad aspera
Ex hoc nunc et usque in saeculum
Fata viam invenerunt

On the Art of War
And so, with the soldiers arranged in the ancient method, like the five spots on a die…
Good wine with comrades
Is a sweeter gift;
The sweetest gift,
The lyre like that of Virgil (Maro):
If I enjoy all three,
I scorn the king's throne.
May there be much peace in the cell indoors, for outside there are many wars.
Through the stars to difficulties
Let us bless the Lord.
From now on and forever.
The fates will find a way.

My user name, 'Flumen Verborum', is Latin for 'river of words'. I have over 10 years of experience translating Latin into English and vice versa both as a student and professionally. I am currently an ESL tutor as well as a translator. Past professional experience includes teaching English in Japanese high schools and elementary schools for two years and working as a Japanese-English translator and research assistant on an archaeological dig in Minami Arima, Japan from 2003-2004. More recently I worked as a Language Expert on the Rosetta Stone Latin version 3 software.
Though I have translated professionally from Japanese to English, my forte as a translator is Latin-English, English-Latin, and Italian-English. Areas of focus include slogans, mottoes, music, history, art, art history, archaeology, Japanese Christian history, catalogs, travel guides, travel websites and children's literature. My Italian-English translation experience so far includes stainless steel and fashion catalogs, legal translation and various other work. My English-to-Latin experience is centered around liturgical translations and modern Latin. I was most recently hired as a Latin language expert for the Rosetta Stone Latin software, version 3.
Precision, accuracy, and ease of understanding are my principal focus. I seek to produce speedy translations of exceptional quality and smoothness, while remaining as faithful as possible to the nuances of the source language. I pride myself on the research I do to ensure that each translation is accurate and faithful to the intentions of the author.
