Bio

I am both
an architect and a translator.

After over
thirty years in the former profession it remains part of me, and the latter is
my current career, one which gives me the opportunity to remain in contact with
the architectural world. My specialisation of building renovation and my
previous background in the arts have provided me with an understanding and
appreciation of art history and architecture. Meanwhile, as a result of my time
as an architect in Spain, I have extensive experience in civil engineering and
other engineering types used in construction. To complete my training as a
translator, I have done a master's degree in literary translation, several
editing courses and many CPD seminars.

I translate
from French, English and Italian to Spanish, my native language. With a level
of French close to that of a native speaker, at times I dare to stray into
fields other than my specialisations. However, I never translate subjects that
I feel are beyond my grasp, such as medical, legal or financial documents.

I began
working as a translator in 2007 alongside my work as an architect; since 2012 I
have worked as a translator exclusively. Many of the documents I translate are
from architect colleagues: websites, architectural tenders, presentations and other
documents. My clients also include several construction companies, for whom I
have translated websites, quotes, tenders and even internal documents for
subsidiaries in Spanish-speaking countries.

The
projects I have worked on include a long project on mine construction, a
building terminology application, a major project for the American real estate
sector
and a four-monthly journal for the
Italian industrial sector. I try to alternate technical texts with others
that are more creative and literary, such as a selection of texts on
architectural theory by an Italian architect, labels and other texts for a
major French museum and a range of texts on tourism, which tend to be full of
architectural descriptions. However my most rewarding project has been the
translation of most of the documentation for a highly prestigious architectural
tender, submitted by the firm of an award-winning architect; they won the
tender and I continued to translate the project documentation. Shortly
afterwards, I was responsible for revising their website.

When I
translate about architecture I feel that I am still involved in my previous
career, and when they are texts by great architects, I feel very honoured to be
taking part, in some small way, in their projects.

I am a perfectionist and enjoy studying what I
translate, understanding it and researching until I reach the true meaning of
every word. I feel that translation is a profession which builds bridges
between cultures, and that is just what I try to do.
