I translate mainly non-fiction literature from English into Hebrew. Since the mid-1990s I have translated books, chapters in books, papers, interviews and essays for book publishers, journals and individual clients. Philosophy and history are my main areas of expertise as a translator. I have translated from the classics of philosophy
, a history of philosophy
, popular philosophy books
, scholarly and popular literature in the humanities and the social sciences, journalistic articles, general non-fiction literature and texts in fields such as Judaism
, computers and technology, nature, animals, ecology, security studies and current affairs. In the more distant past I also translated some technical literature.
Among the publishing houses in which books or parts of books in my translation have been published are prominent Israeli publishers such as Books in the Attic and Yediot Books, Am Oved, the Zalman Shazar Center, Hakibbutz Hameuchad and Ma'arachot. I recently translated into Hebrew a New History of Western Philosophy
by the British philosopher Sir Anthony Kenny. The Hebrew translation of its four volumes is to be published by Books in the Attic. They also published my translation of John Stuart Mill's classic On Liberty
I studied for BA in philosophy and history and for MA in philosophy and was trained in web technologies at an IT college. Prior to that I attended an arts high school where my majors were Cinema and French. Over the years I have studied several languages to different levels. I can understand at least something in many languages. I follow developments in areas that include the natural sciences, particularly biology and animal behavior, ecology, computers, web technologies and standards and open-source software.
I can translate well texts in my areas of knowledge and interest and general texts on almost any subject. I see learning new areas of knowledge and their terminology as part of my work, and the opportunities to learn are one of the reasons for my choice of occupation. I also offer style and logic editing, proofreading, fact-checking and writing services in Hebrew.
Since the beginning of this century, as a side occupation, I have built websites and developed web applications using open-source technologies. I am vegan and am involved in activism for animal welfare and rights and for ecological sustainability.
