Bio

My story in brief

After graduating from an Indonesian public university in 1997, I was recruited by an oil service company to work in Lafayette, Louisiana, United States. I 'jumped' nonstop from rig to rig in the Gulf of Mexico for about a year, 'playing' with various nuclear and highly sophisticated tools performing my magic as a measurement and logging engineer.

I was relocated to Indonesia a year later where I spent another restless offshore year in the East Kalimantan coast, before I decided to leave my oilfield job for good to pursue my passion in IT.

I started to build my IT career since 2000. A good friend who was also a prominent IT book writer introduced me to book writing and translation.

In no time, I found myself doing side job as a freelance translator for one of the leading book publisher in Indonesia, while maintaining my full-time job as an IT engineer. I worked with this publisher from 2004 until 2009 and had translated a total of eight books on various computer subjects. I also wrote a couple of IT books myself.

I paused doing translation since 2010 due to the increasing workloads in my full-time job as an IT Manager. But things do not always go smoothly. Covid-19 pandemic hit the country's economy very hard in 2020. I had no choice but to quit my last office job and started doing translation and subtitling as my full-time occupation.

With my education background in mechanical engineering and 20 years of employment as field engineer and manager for oilfield, consumer goods, textile, construction, plastic and hospitality companies, I have obtained broad practical knowledge in many fields and industries which have built, developed, and sharpened my translation expertise to cover a wide range of areas and subjects.
