I received my German/English - English/German translator' s and interpreter's certificate at the Lodovico Language Institute in Hamburg, Germany in 1955. Since then I have gained extensive experience in various fields as a translator and also as a bilingual administrative assistant and bilingual legal secretary in New York City and Texas.
For a number of years, I also worked as a Realtor serving international customers and clients on Long Island, New York and in Houston, Texas.
Recently, I finished translating my first book, an anthology of inspirational short stories from English into German. This was a very special assignment, which gave me great joy.
Much of my work is translating from German into the English language, but I enjoy working in either direction. I translate certificates (incl. birth, marriage, death), diplomas, CVs. Specialize in literary assignments, commercial, real estate, insurance and legal documents, business and technical correspondence and reports (English to German, German to English), genealogical documents from German to English. Sütterlin and other old scripts can be a particular challenge because often the original hand writings are faded and the paper much yellowed. Still, I love working with the old letters and bible inscriptions.
I also translate over the phone both from and to English and German and handle transcription translations. Additionally, I do extensive Internet research in the German language. I have worked in a great variety of fields, incl. but not limited to, the arts, history and journalism, antiques and rare books, law offices, shipping, manufacturing, hospitality. I have also been a tour guide in the past.
I have lived in the United States since the 1950s and am a United States citizen. I spent my first nineteen years in my native Germany, in Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg, and continue to travel. Currently, I reside in an area with deep German roots in the Texas Hill Country and continue constant interaction with German speaking residents and tourists.
