"Personal satisfaction – defining success, taking action and filtering noise"

This presentation will focus the psychological aspect of being satisfied with one’s current achievements and building for a better future. As work occupies so many hours of the day, personal satisfaction is an essential part of long-term success. The problem is that “success” is subjective, i.e., each person deals with his/her own needs and challenges and relates to freelance translation and interpretation differently. There is no single defining feature of success in translation, including in terms of income and quality. The goal is to appreciate today’s success and work towards achievable goals in the future, blocking out irrelevant and distracting outside messages.

"Delivering localization effectiveness with global content readiness and content operations"

Linguists know that it is crucial to deliver and demonstrate operational effectiveness. It is the best way to ensure that localization is constantly recognized in the business, truly embedded in global content supply chains, timely planned in global product/service roadmaps and properly resourced with the needed capacity and capabilities. Therefore the main challenge lies in how to define, manage, capture and measure localization effectiveness. As there is no localization effectiveness without global content readiness it matters to consider localization within a broader picture including how source/native content is created and how localized content is experienced. During this session you will learn about some tactics and best practices to elevate the role of localization both operationally and strategically and use customer-centric rationale to position, calibrate and scale localization as needed. You will also be able to raise your profile of a language professional and lift up your translation or localization team.

It does not have to be set in stone, but it will serve as a guideline as you advance in your career, regardless of the stage you are in. background image for Community Management for Localization teams

"Community Management for Localization teams"

As the localization industry becomes evermore automated and web-based, small and large LSPs seem increasingly interested in Community Management. Years ago, many were ready to sentence that technology would replace traditional roles, such as Vendor management, but this trend highlights the strong need for building and nurturing human relationships. In the World Without Barriers celebrated by this year's International Translation Day, technology is what makes our world a little smaller, humans are who can make it a better place to live in. This session will explore the ins and outs of managing communities of linguists, looking at the relationship between LSPs and freelancers, and that between freelancers. We will consider the challenges of navigating virtual communities, and the perks of gaining new colleagues to share ideas with. Finally, we will touch upon discrimination and safety in the digital workspace and how to guarantee civil collaboration among all members of a professional community.
