The following appears at the end of a (manuscript) Haitian surveyor's report:

En foi de quoi, nous avons dressé et clos le présent procès-verbal, les
jour, mois et an que dessus **pour servir et valoir au besoin** et
l'avons signé avec tous ceux sachant le faire.

Does *servir et valoir au besoin* mean something special, or just
something like: "to be consulted as needed"?

It is possible in this context that the original intent was to say: "Pour valoir ce que de droit." In this case, the above translation would probably do. Quite often, it is necessary to ascertain to some degree what the original intent might have been in some legal documents written in Haiti (simply because consistency with French is not always present).

I have run across many instances where "valoir ce que de droit" means something besides what it "actually" means, and this is not limited to Haitian French! It looks like it actually should have been the phrase: pour servir à telle fin que de raison/pour valoir ce que de raison, that is, "be used as may be thought proper." [Found all of this in Termium]"
