I am currently translating a text on pharmacognosy and I am struggling with the following sentence.(especially the parts between brackets. Can anyone help me?

Using a combination of in vitro bioassays (involving an estrogen-responsive human endometrial adenocarcinoma cell line (Ishikawa Var-I), yeast cells (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) in which the human estrogen receptor is transfected and a binding assay to estrogen receptors based on rat uterine cytosol) and an acute in vivo bioassay (employing vascular permeability in uteri of ovariectomized mice), we were able to show that 8-PN is the most potent phyto-estrogen known to date, having an estrogenic activity considerably greater than that of established phyto-estrogens such as genistein (from soy) and coumestrol (from red clover)
