French term

curvette méridionale

French to English Other
Can the above be translated as "southern basin" in the following context?

I have translated this sentence as:

"The factory fumes stagnate in over the Campanian plain around Vesuvius, particularly over the southern basin, which is enclosed by Vesuvius itself, the foothills of the Apennines and the Lattari mountains. In the middle of all this lies Pompeii".

Any suggestions/corrections welcome.

What you have looks good. I did an Internet search using your terms, plus "Vesuvius" and "Campanian" and got a lot of hits. I also checked in Termium, and "basin" looks like the preferred term.
