Lift the 3rd stage piston from the compressor.
Slacken the crosshead locknut.
Unscrew the piston rod from the crosshead - the loosened locknut should be held by a spanner to be unscrewed off the rod end simultaneously, and removed as the rod is withdrawn.
Fit a lifting eye to the M12 tapping in the end of the piston rod.
(In some cases, this tapping may be plugged).
