"Specimen should be obtained in sterile syringe. If no sinus fluid is obtained, a maximum of 2 mL of isotonic non-bacteriostatic 0.9% NaCl may be used to flush the sinus. If only a small vlume of purulent material is aspirated, then 1-2 mL of isotonic, non-bacteriostatic 0.9% NaCl may be used to flush the syringe when inoculating the Port-a-Cul transport medium."
