Translation - English The sword is a double-edged weapon for cutting and thrusting in ancient times. For a Chinese sword, the blade is called the sword body, the raised center-line of the sword body is called the Ji (sword ridge), the slope beside the Ji is named the Cong (half-flat), and the cutting edge at the out side of the Cong is the E. Generally, there are four Congs and four Es (edges) on a sword body. The pointed part of the sword body is called the Feng (tip). The grip is called the Jing, Gou, or Jia, which is always elliptical, round or rectangular in shape. The grip may be solid or hollow. The part between the grip and the body is the Ge, La, or Xin (guard). The head of the hilt is the Shou (pommel). Swords of the early times are mostly short-grip ones without the guard and pommel. (Fig. 1) A short sword is also called Bishou (dagger). A long sword may be longer than 1 meter. Two-handed swords are also found.
Swords came into being in very early times. Ivory daggers unearthed from sites of Dawenkou Culture of 7,000 years ago are arc-shaped and double-edged. The daggers are primitive swords. Bronze swords originated from the Shang Dynasty, and became popular in the East Zhou Dynasty. From the Spring and Autumn, the Warring States periods to the Han Dynasty, sword-forging technologies were reaching the peak of perfection, both in strength and decoration. Especially, the crystallized pattern edges of the "hundred-time-forging" steel, the rough pattern edges of welding, and the skills of surface hardening, anti-erosion treating and decorating, all impact deeply and long on cold weapons in China and other Asian countries. For example, the planar crystallized pattern-edge swords of Japan, India, Afghanistan, Caucasus, Iran, and Damascus, and the rough pattern-edge Malaysian Kris swords, are known for their sharpness, hardness, beautiful patterns, and dignities.

Source text - English This country had a target in its National Strategic Plan to reduce HIV prevalence by 25%. We used the Goals model to show that with their existing level of resources the impact on the epidemic will be minimal, as demonstrated by the blue line. Taking account some additional resources that were being mobilized, we showed that the epidemic can be stabilized as demonstrated by the red line. We were also able to estimate what will be the resources needed to achieve the prevention target. The country was able to do two things in response to this work: first, they we able to mobilize some, but not all additional resources, and secondly, they adjusted their target to a more realistic level.
How does the Resource Needs Model work? The basic approach is that it combines information on the size of the target population for the intervention with the percentage of the target population covered in order to arrive at the actual number of people to be reached by the intervention. This is coupled with cost information to estimate the total costs of the intervention.
