Norwegian term

pøll

Norwegian to English Medical Medical: Instruments hip screws, orthopaedics
Sentence: Ryggleie på strekkbord. Skadet ben i godt polstret strekksko, evt. *pøll* distalt under låret.
Any ideas, please?

Christine, you might have hit on something there. I've just looked in L&H too (although I'm supposed to be finding Norwegian!), and found pølle, which is bolster, and this [English] term has come up before - from another Norwegian word, of course - where the procedure was talking about supporting a limb in theatre.

cushion or pillow???

In Danish a 'pølle' is a cylindrical cushion. (Vinterberg & Bodelsen)

Could this be something like that?
I have also seen what the patient called a 'pølle' with a smaller diameter in the middle, in that case to keep the head in position, but it could be used to stabilise a limb too.
