Immunoprecipitation is a procedure by which peptides or proteins that react specifically with an antibody are removed from solution and examined for quantity or physical characteristics (molecular weight, isoelectric point, etc.).
Immunoprecipitation can be used for many purposes, e.g. Verification that an antigen of interest is synthesized by a specific tissue (i.e., that radiolabeled protein can be identified in tissues or cells cultured with radiolabeled precursors).
