German term or phrase: Kompaktgerät
CONTEXT:

Would 'compact device' be correct or is there, perhaps, a specialist term in English? Thanks in advance, Matts.

English translation:compact appliance or device
Explanation:
I only prefer to avoid "device", because it tends to look like a "last resort", but there's nothing wrong with it in fact; can you not use "generator", or do you not know whether that's what it is?

agree  Ken Cox: Things are generally named by their function in English, but if the function is not apparent from the general context, 'appliance' or 'unit' would be possible. I agree that 'device' is a poor choice in this context.
