Spanish term

paño fijo

Spanish to English Marketing
Como decía Milton, no son mercancías monopolizables y que admitan tráfico por cédulas, estatutos y patrones oficiales. Desechemos la idea de convertir en un artículo tipo todo el conocimiento del país, para marcarlo y licenciarlo como nuestro paño fijo y pacas de lana.

Proposed translations

standard procedure

According to content I would say it means "standard prcedure". I guess this because the paño in "paño de lágrimas" is the translation for the English "tear jerker", thus paño is used for status designation in Spanish.

Basically, they are saying that they wouldn't catalogue their knowledge as a staple or set staple, but rather their ideosyncrasies go beyond a one set item and thus cannot be marketed or sold as such.

Trade mark

La frase es bastante confusa en español y creo que requeriría una adaptación, en todo caso el autor se refiere a convertir el conocimiento del país en un producto estándar o una marca registrada.
