EXPERIENCE 1997 - present Freelance Interpreter and Translator / Translation Project Manager

My list of permanent customers includes such demanding customers as LUKOIL Oil Company, WorleyParsons, Crescent Petroleum, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating (KPO) B.V., the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, Asian Development Bank (ADB), Islamic Development Bank, Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), National University of Singapore, the UN family (UNDP, UNICEF, UNIFEM, UNFPA, UNAIDS, UNHCR, UNODC, UNCTAD etc.), European Commission, US Department of State, Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) , International Committee of the Red Cross, UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), German Technical Cooperation (GTZ), etc.

Over the years, I have come to specialize extensively in the following fields:

• International affairs and development (UNDP, UNICEF, UNFPA, UNEP, UNECE, UNODC, UNAIDS, DFID, GTZ, USAID, European Commission etc.)
• International finance (IMF, EBRD, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, IFC, Islamic Development Bank etc.)
• Healthcare (World Health Organization, UNAIDS, UNICEF etc.)
• Oil and Gas (LUKOIL, WorleyParsons, Crescent Petroleum etc.)

• Law Enforcement (UNODC, Interpol, Austrian police, Kyrgyz General Prosecutor's Office etc.)

For a number of years now I have been managing two teams of freelance professionals providing translation and interpretation services for LUKOIL Overseas (since 2010) and Crescent Petroleum (between 2010 and 2015) with a total of approximately 5,000 hours of interpretation and 20,000 pages of text per year.

Besides translation and interpretation for corporate customers over the last few years I have also translated fiction including novels by such authors as James Lee Burke, Philippi Ryan, Alison Brennan and William Dietrich. My translations have been published in Russia.

2003 - present Owner and Director, SVS Systems, Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

In the position of the founder and managing director of the company I was responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations, finance, customer relations and strategic development up until 2010 when I relocated to the UAE having trained a very capable successor and having established a clear system of responsibilities and a robust reporting system along with a system of checks and balances. I retain majority interest and overall oversight and strategic development function.

SVS SYSTEMS, established in 2002, is the leading provider of technical solutions and equipment rentals for conferences in Central Asia. During a fairly brief visit to Kyrgyzstan in the summer of 2002 I spotted an unsatisfied demand for professional technical solutions and modern equipment for conferences and other events. Having started with just one technical employee in a highly monopolized and sometimes hostile local environment from a very low base, in two years the company introduced local customers to never-seen-before state-of-the-art conference equipment and introduced new to the market services and concepts such as a money-back guarantee. The company repaid the initial bank loan and broke even within the first 18 months of operation. By investing heavily in new technologies and staff development by 2005 we gained a 50% market share and currently maintain it at about 65% of the local market. The number of staff increased from 2 in 2002 to 30 in 2015 with less than 10% staff turnover in total for the last 10 years. As part of our development strategy we secured exclusive and long-term agreements with a number of key customers, some of which are mentioned above.

2004 - present Owner and Director, Lingva Universal, Bishkek Kyrgyzstan

In the position of the founder and managing director of the company I was responsible for the company’s day-to-day operations, finance, customer relations and strategic development up until 2010 when I relocated to the UAE having trained a very capable successor and having established a clear system of responsibilities and a robust reporting system along with a system of checks and balances. I retain majority interest and overall oversight and strategic development function.

Lingva Universal is the leading provider of conference interpretation and translation services in Central Asia. Its unique advantage compared to conventional translation agencies is that it only works with professional free-lance translators and interpreters rather than keeping in-house staff. This allows it to keep overheads at a minimum and provide the best possible quality compared to desk and in-house translators. Despite our interpreters and translators are not staff members we ensure their loyalty and professional development by exposing them to different terminologies and environments thus enabling the company to provide the best professionals for any particular job. The company only works with corporate customers some of which are mentioned above. Sales have been growing by an average of 20% annually; the number of freelance subcontractors and customers has tripled. A quality assurance system was implemented in 2007 leading to 0% reclamations for the last five years. In 2015 the freelancer network the company operates reached more than 50 professionals in 7 countries.
