Source text - English The consequences of anaerobic glycolysis
This physiological mechanism is very important; its main benefit is the rapid production of useful quantities of adenosine triphosphate. The mechanism enables us to run 100-m at speeds of more than 10 · s¯¹ , 400-m at about 9 m · s¯¹ and 800-m at about 8 · s¯¹, all very useful if our survival is at stake, or we need to sprint to catch the bus, or to win an Olympic medal. The presence of lactic acid in muscle cells carries two penalties. The first, and the one that we have all experienced, is pain. This particular phenomenon is the first-line safety mechanism designed to prevent us from damaging ourselves; but it can be ignored, and in elite athletes, it usually is. However, we cannot avoid the other penalty, which is the way increased acidity of muscle cells interferes with the mechanics of skeletal muscle contraction. Acids break down (dissociate) into hydrogen ions (H⁺)- protons – and bases; lactic acid dissociates into hydrogen ions and lactate ions (La). The hydrogen ions adversely affect the functions of key proteins, particularly the glycolitic enzymes that drive the biochemical reactions; they also interfere with the function of the actin and myosin proteins that make up the myofilaments. In addition, hydrogen ions compete for the binding sites on the actin filament; this reduces the opportunities for myosin head to bind to the actin filament and deliver the power strokes that lead to contraction. As acidity increases, the force generated
by muscles diminishes progressively; the athlete is unable to continue at the same early pace and eventually stops. If a cheetah fails to catch its prey in 30 to 40 s it gives up the chase, not because it is not hungry but because of the hydrogen ions derived from lactic acid interfering with muscle contractions.
The loss of form and deceleration in and the final 50-m of the 400-m race is another example of the phenomenon.

Source text - English And if she speak in her frail way,
it is wholly to bewitch
my smallest thought with a most swift
radiance wherein slowly drift
murmurous things divinely bright;
it is foolingly to smite
my spirit with the lithe free twitch
of scintillant space, with the cool writhe
of gloom truly which syncopate
some sunbeam's skilful fingerings;
it is utterly to lull
with foliate inscrutable
sweetness my soul obedient;
it is to stroke my being with
numbing forests, frolicsome,
fleetly mystical, aroam
with keen creatures of idiom
(beings alert and innocent
very deftly upon which
indolent miracles impinge)
-- it is distinctly to confute
my reason with the deep caress
of every most shy thing and mute,
it is to quell me with the twinge
of all living intense things.
Translation - Turkish Ve eğer o narin tavrıyla konuşuyorsa,
büyülemek içindir bu tamamıyla
benim en küçük düşüncemi, çarçabuk
yayılan bir görkemle
mırıldanan şeylerin kutsalca parladığı yerde;
muzipçe etkilemek içindir
ruhumu, o esnek kıpırtısıyla
ışıldayan boşluğun, soğuk kıvranışıyla,
güneşin becerikli dokunuşlarının ritmini
açıkça bozan kasvetin;
bu düpedüz uyuşturmak içindir
ruhumun itaat ettiği
anlaşılmaz ve katmanlı tatlılığı;
okşamak içindir benim varlığımı
hissiz ormanlarla, yerinde duramayan,
gizemi fani olan,
içlerinde meraklı yaratıklar dolaşan
(uyanıklık ve masumlukta
bu varlıklar birer usta
ve miskin mucizeler onlara el uzatır)
--besbelli ki bu, çürütmek içindir
benim mantığımı, o sıkı kucaklamayla
tüm ürkek ve sessiz şeyleri,
benim heyecanımı bastırmak içindir, sancısıyla
yaşayan bütün güçlü şeylerin.
