I have always been a linguist with a wide range of interests. I read Modern Languages at St. Catherine's College, Oxford, and I also hold a BSc in Psycholgy and an MA in ELT. In 1975 I went to Spain to teach for six months and stayed another 23 years.

I passed the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation in 1989 and translated and interpreted for a cinema festival in Spain from 1990 to 2001. At the same time, I ran a language school and worked as a free-lance journalist, writing in Spanish.

From 1998 onwards, I translated journals, veterinary reports and legal documents for an animal welfare organisation in Germany and - after returning to the UK for a brief period - I was a tutor in academic writing at the Universities of Manchester and Essex in 2001 and 2002.

In 2003, I moved to Argentina and, since 2005, I have been a full professor at the Faculty of Languages and Foreign Studies at University of Belgrano, Argentina, teaching:

  1. Translation Theory,
  2. Translation into English,
  3. Research Methods,
  4. Critical and Academic Writing,
  5. English in the Media, and
  6. English as a National Language and Lingua Franca.

My recent translation work includes book chapters and articles on genocide for Oxford University Press and Routledge.
