Chris is a freelance Arabic to English and Spanish translator. Working with Spanish was a major part of his prior association work that involved translating and editing educational and technical content for industry publications and events held throughout the U.S. and Latin America. He learned Arabic through many years of study in the U.S., the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). While taking graduate courses in Middle East Studies at The American University in Cairo (AUC), he authored a chapter of Translating Egypt’s Revolution: The Language of Tahir (AUC Press, 2011). After the final stint of his association career as International Programs Director, he refocused entirely on studying Arabic and translation. His Arabic–English translation credentials include a Foundational Certificate in Translation and Interpreting (2021) and a Professional Diploma in Media and Audiovisual Translation (2023) from AUC. After earning his translation credentials, Chris launched his freelance career, translating a mixture of audio-visual (subtitling) and written content from a variety of Arabic language sources. He looks forward to new challenges including book translation projects, more Arabic to Spanish projects, etc.
