Source text - English The Little Nero tantrum is very different from the distress tantrum in that it is about the desire to control and manipulate. A child having a Little Nero Tantrum doesn’t experience or show the anguish, desperation, and panic that characterizes the distress tantrum, and he doesn’t have stress chemicals flooding his brain and body.
A Little Nero tantrum is about a child trying to get what he wants attention, a particular toy, or food through bullying his parents into submission. A child who has frequent Little Nero tantrums has learned that shouting and screaming produces results: “If I cry and scream, I know that eventually they’ll give me that bar of chocolate.”
Children who have Little Nero tantrums need to learn they can’t always receive the gratification they want at the time they want it.
The problems of giving in
If you reward frequent Little Nero tantrums by giving in to your child’s demands, you are in danger of setting up a trigger-happy RAGE system in your child’s brain. This is because the mere experience of rage without the capacity for reasoned thinking can result in rage becoming a part of your child’s personality.

El niño que padece el síndrome de la rabieta del pequeño Nerón intenta obtener aquello que desea, presionando a sus padres hasta que éstos satisfacen su deseo: atención, algún juguete , o algún alimento. Un niño que a menudo tenga paroxismos del pequeño Nerón, es consciente de que gritando y pataleando se va a salir con la suya.: “ Si lloro y pataleo, sé que terminarán dándome el chocolate.”
Es menester que los niños con este padecimiento aprendan que no siempre van a tener lo que quieren, en el momento que lo quieren.
Las consecuencias de ceder.
Si respondemos a los repetidos berrinches del pequeño Nerón cediendo a sus exigencias, correremos el riesgo de crear un mecanismo de ira listo para activarse ante el menor estímulo. Esto lo explica el hecho de que la simple experiencia de la ira, carente de la capacidad para razonar, podrá convertir esa ira en parte intrínsea de la personalidad del niño.
