I am a certified as a Spanish-to-English translator by the American Translators Association (ATA), as a court interpreter by the Washington State Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC), and as a medical and social services interpreter through the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS). I have over seventeen years working as a translator and interpreter. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, I am a native English speaker with a near-native command of the Spanish language, honed from decades of study, including a year at the University of Chile and extended stays in Mexico, Guatemala, and Costa Rica. I provided translation, interpreting, and Spanish tutoring in the Bay Area for seven years before moving to Bellingham, Washington where I have continued to freelance as a linguist for ten years and counting. My educational background includes a certificate in Legal/Court Interpreting from San Francisco State University and an MA in Literary Translation (with Distinction) from the University of East Anglia. A lifelong learner, I am currently completing the online Spanish/English Translation certificate program through the University of California at San Diego and recently completed Gaucha Translation’s English<>Spanish translation certification training.
