“Đứng bên ni Hàn, ngó qua bên tê Hàn nước xanh như tàu lá
Đứng bên tê Hàn, ngó bên ni Hàn, thấy phố xá thênh thang”.
Đó là câu ca mà người dân thành phố thường hay nhắc đến một thời hoang sơ, nghèo khó, cơ cực của vùng đất mang nhiều dấu ấn của thời cuộc. Sự khác biệt giữa hai bờ Đông - Tây bên sông Hàn quá lớn đến nỗi dù ở ngay giữa lòng đô thị nhưng người dân bờ Đông mỗi lần qua bờ Tây sông Hàn người ta thường nói là qua phố hay qua Đà Nẵng.
Những khu nhà chồ dọc bờ Đông sông Hàn đã được phá bỏ, những con đường cát chỉ vừa một người đi, những làng chài tạm bợ dọc bờ biển Mỹ Khê, Mâm Thái, Thọ Quang, bến phà Hà Thân, cầu vồng đường Thống Nhất không còn, nhường chỗ cho những dãy phố, những đại lộ được mọc lên nhưng trong ký ức của người dân Đà Nẵng, những người con xa quê đều luôn nhớ về một thời đã qua.

This is the verse that reminds the people here of an untamed, poor and destitute place bearing numerous traces of time. Although situated in the center of the city, so great is the difference between the two East-West sides of Han River that whenever traveling from the East to West, people often say ‘go downtown’ or ‘go to Danang’. Waterfront stilt houses along the East side of Han river are now diminished.
The sandy roads that used to fit only one person, the makeshift fishing villages on My Khe beach, Mam Thai beach and Tho Quang beach, Ha Than ferry as well as Vong bridge on Thong Nhat street have also gone to make room for city roads and boulevards. Yet, people far from home will always remember what’s imprinted on their minds - a bygone era.

After 25 years of transformation, from 1-1-1997, the mushroom growth of modern streets and bridges has gradually supplanted a mass of riverfront stilt houses along the east bank of Han River and small sandy roads that can only fit 1 person. The introduction of Song Han Bridge signifies the time of Da Nang's prosperity. While Rong Bridge is a new symbol of the city, Tran Thi Ly Bridge looks like a red sail heading out to the open sea. Thuan Phuoc cable-stayed Bridge glorifies the city's new face at the end of the Han River.
Previously, the western side of Han River just had a sprinkling of freighters and rudimentary constructions. These days, on this riverbank, exist a beautifully bright Bach Dang street and an Administration Center where citizens’ problems are addressed. Thanh Binh Coast, where people used to live in agony every stormy season, has now become Nguyen Tat Thanh - one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Vietnam linking Tien Sa port and Nam O to National Highway No. 1A. The past quarter-century was the time that marked a dramatic change here in Danang and created a momentum for further development. Today's Da Nang is a multi-colored city and each color is found based on the angle and location that the viewer takes.

Cây cầu Sông Hàn mở đầu cho sự phát triển của thành phố, cầu Rồng biểu tượng mới của Đà Nẵng, cầu Trần Thị Lý như cánh buồm đỏ hướng ra biển lớn, cầu dây văng Thuận Phước như tô điểm thêm cho vẻ đẹp của thành phố mới cuối sông Hàn. Khu vực bờ Tây sông Hàn trước đây chỉ có ít tàu thuyền vào bốc chở hàng hoá và một số công trình đơn sơ. Ngày nay là con đường Bạch Đằng sáng đẹp dọc bờ Tây sông Hàn và Trung tâm Hành chính nơi giải quyết các vấn đề thiết yếu cho người dân.
Khu vực dọc bờ biển Thanh Bình trước đây khi mùa mưa bão đến là nỗi khổ của người dân nay đại lộ Nguyễn Tất Thành nối dài giao thông từ cảng Tiên Sa đến Nam Ô với quốc lộ 1A tạo nên con đường ven biển đẹp nhất Việt Nam. Một phần tư thế kỷ đã qua, đánh dấu sự đổi thay kỳ diệu, tạo đà cho Đà Nẵng phát triển tương lai. Đà Nẵng hôm nay là thành phố đa góc nhìn, tùy theo góc nhìn, tùy theo vị trí mà chúng ta cảm nhận được vẻ đẹp khác biệt về thành phố mới.
