Translation - English INTRODUCTION
The proliferation of weeds in areas used for crops and pasture contributes to the drop in productivity of the land and to the abandonment of the land soon after installation (Fernandes et al., 1993). Due to economic and environmental restrictions on the use of herbicides, mechanical control of weeds is an old technique that needs to be restructured to be used in integrated management programs. Such programs should be assisted with a full understanding of the population dynamics of the species (Fernandes-Quintanilla, 1988), which begins with the study of the seed bank.
Seed banks are the stock of seeds accumulated in the soil (Cavers, 1995) and play a very important ecological role in the supply of new individuals to communities over time (Carmona, 1992). The objective of this work was to estimate part of the natural regeneration potential of areas with agroforestry systems.
