Source text - English Last time, I spoke about how God’s plan is being carried out through the nation of Israel.
Perhaps some of you are already aware of this, but the nation of Israel was destroyed in AD 70, and for about 1,900 years they existed as a nation without a country. But in the end, their land began to be restored to them, and in 1948, Israel was re-established as an independent nation, and then was also accepted as a member state of the United Nations. This nation that had vanished for almost two thousand years, suddenly appeared once more. There had been a nation of Israel before that, but it had disappeared for about 1,900 years, and then the nation of Israel was restored. This is a really extraordinary thing to happen in this world, and it is an incident that holds an extremely deep significance.
People may think that it’s common for a country to vanish and then come into existence again, and they may think it is possible for such things to happen, but if we consider it in view of the Bible, we can see that this was a very great incident and it holds an extremely important significance. Yet it seems that people don’t pay any particular attention to this fact.
Today, through the Bible, we are going to be taking a look at the nation of Israel in the Middle East—a nation that has captured the attention of the entire world—and we’ll be considering why it is that this country has been restored once more, and why there is so much controversy in regard to this nation, why so many conflicts have arisen involving this nation. We’ll be taking the Bible as our basis as we search for the reason for this. We will see that, in terms of this world, this means that the end is approaching, and the day when Jesus will return to this world is drawing near.
Korea was annexed to Japan for 36 years, and the nation called the Republic of Korea vanished. But then after 36 years, it was restored and was established once more as an independent nation. It’s true that other countries in the region of southeast Asia—countries like Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia, India, and Indonesia as well—were all, for a period of time, under the rule of countries like Portugal, France, and England, and then they, too, became independent. But, except for Israel, there is no other example of a nation that has disappeared, its citizens being scattered throughout the world for almost 2,000 years, after which time they returned to their land once more.
In the case of Israel, not many Israelites remained living in that land. Most of them were scattered across the entire world. They were taken as prisoners and lived in foreign lands. The land itself became the property of other nations, and the people were scattered throughout the world. And this situation continued for no less than about 1,900 years. ......
