After graduating with an honours degree in Modern Language studies (French and Spanish), I embarked on a career in public service. The greater part of this (17 years) was spent in local government, specifically in social housing management, urban renewal and regeneration, etc. I, therefore, have a wealth of experience and knowledge of this particular field. During this time, I carried out translations and interpreting for my employer on an ad-hoc basis. I maintained my involvement with the languages through frequent visits to France and Spain, reading, and contact with French and Spanish friends.
Having decided on a change of life and career, I undertook a course in Environmental Conservation(gaining an NVQ qualification in the process) ,wildlife, the environment and conservation, being one of my main lifelong personal passions. Therefore I also have considerable in-depth knowledge of this field, particularly ornithology and habitat management.
I have also travelled extensively and have a great love of Spain in particular and its culture.
At the date of writing (26th August 2003) I have just commenced my career as a full-time translator. As above, my translation experience to date has been on a part-time basis, undertaking smaller jobs for individuals, and on ad-hoc basis for my employer.
My pricing is very competitive, but depends on the urgency of the work. In general, I view accuracy and authenticity as preferable to speed.
