Source text - English HEDGE FUND INVESTMENT STRATEGIES *
Hedge funds differ in the amount of investment risk they are willing to undertake. Investment strategies vary enormously, some use leverage and derivatives while others are more conservative and employ little or no leverage. Hedge funds are typically highly specialised and trade within their area of expertise. Strategies may be designed to be directional (which try to anticipate market movements) or market-neutral (which have low correlation to the overall market movement). Due to an increase in institutional demand, some hedge funds restrict their investments to long positions in stocks like ordinary mutual funds.
Generally, the more ‘directional’ a fund, the more volatile and higher potential return or loss. Hedge funds may allocate their assets across several strategies at the same time. Although returns may vary significantly in different years, hedge funds have outperformed both the Average Equity Mutual Fund Index and S&P 500 over the past 16 years. There is however a survivorship bias, whereby published results for hedge funds do not include the returns of hedge funds that no longer exist. The proportion of closed hedge funds averaged around 5% a year between 1999 and 2004.
There are various hedging strategies available to hedge funds including selling short, using arbitrage, trading options and derivatives or investing in anticipation of a specific event (merger, takeover, etc.). The broad types of investment strategies include:
Non-directional or Market-neutral strategies tend to involve less risk than directional strategies due to a lower degree of exposure to the broad movements of a market. Typical strategies include:
- Arbitrage is the exploitation of the relative mispricing of securities. It is facilitated by the use of derivatives, technology and trading on different exchanges and requires large, usually leveraged investments.
- Event-driven strategies take advantage of the perceived mispricing of securities by anticipating events such as corporate mergers or bankruptcies and their effects. A ‘Distressed Securities’ strategy involves investing in companies undergoing some form of reorganisation. ‘Risk/Merger arbitrage’ strategies attempt to profit from pending merger transactions.
Market Trend or Directional strategies are used by the majority of hedge funds. These strategies have a large degree of exposure to the broad movements of the market. Such strategies include:
- Macro funds. This type of strategy involves looking at global trends and placing large directional bets on for example currencies, interest rates, or commodities;
- Long/Short strategies try to exploit perceived anomalies in the prices of securities. ‘Equity hedge’ strategies involve holding a portfolio of long and short stock positions in order to negate the impact of general market movements. In this way the funds may have positive performance irrespective of the direction of the market;
- Emerging market strategies involve investing in emerging markets which tend to have higher inflation and volatile growth. This strategy often does not involve shorting or hedging due to restrictions that may be in place in many emerging markets on short sales.

Os hedge funds diferem entre si pelo nível de risco de investimento que estão dispostos a assumir. As estratégias de investimento variam consideravelmente, algumas utilizam alavancagem e instrumentos derivados enquanto outras são mais conservadoras e empregam pouca ou nenhuma alavancagem. O hedge fund típico é altamente especializado e negoceia dentro da sua área de especialização. As estratégias podem ser elaboradas para serem direccionais (tentam antecipar movimentos do mercado) ou neutras em relação ao mercado (têm baixa correlação com os movimentos do mercado em geral). Devido a um aumento da procura institucional, alguns fundos restringem os seus investimentos a posições longas em acções do mesmo modo que os fundos mútuos ordinários.
De um modo geral, quanto mais “direccional” for um fundo, mais volatilidade terá, e maior o potencial ganho ou perda. Os hedge funds podem distribuir os seus activos por várias estratégias simultaneamente. Embora os retornos possam variar significativamente em anos diferentes, os hedge funds obtiveram um desempenho superior tanto ao Average Equity Mutual Fund Index (índice médio de fundos de investimento em acções) como ao S&P 500 durante os 16 últimos anos. Existe, no entanto, um “viés do sobrevivente”, segundo o qual os dados publicados sobre hedge funds não incluem os retornos dos fundos alternativos que deixaram de existir. A proporção de fundos alternativos que fecharam foi, em média, 5% por ano entre 1999 e 2004.
Os hedge funds dispõem de várias estratégias de cobertura de risco incluindo as vendas a descoberto, o uso de arbitragem, a negociação de opções e derivados ou o investimento em antecipação de um evento especifico (fusão, oferta de compra, etc.). Em linhas gerais, os principais tipos de estratégia de investimento incluem:
Estratégias Não - direccionais, ou Neutras em relação ao mercado normalmente têm um risco menor do que as estratégias direccionais devido a um menor grau de exposição aos grandes movimentos do mercado. As estratégias típicas incluem:
- Arbitragem é a exploração de avaliações relativamente ineficientes de títulos. É facilitada pelo uso de derivados, de tecnologia e de negociação em bolsas diferentes e requer investimentos avultados e, normalmente, alavancados.
- Estratégias de antecipação dum acontecimento exploram aparentes ineficiências na avaliação no mercado de títulos através da antecipação de eventos tais como fusões de empresas ou falências e os seus efeitos. Uma estratégia de investimento, “Títulos Mal Parados” implica o investimento em empresas que estão a sofrer alguma forma de reorganização. Estratégias de “arbitragem Risco/Fusão” tentam tirar rendimento de operações de fusão pendentes.
Estratégias de Tendência de Mercado ou Direccionais são utilizadas pela maioria dos fundos de investimento alternativos. Estas estratégias têm um grau elevado de exposição aos grandes movimentos do mercado. Estas estratégias incluem :
- Fundos Macro. Este tipo de estratégia implica a análise das tendências globais e a realização de grandes apostas quanto à direcção de, por exemplo, divisas, taxas de juro ou mercadorias;
- Estratégias Longo/Curto tentam explorar aparentes anomalias nas cotações de títulos. A estratégia de ‘Equity Hedge’ implica a detenção duma carteira de posições longas e curtas em acções de modo a anular o impacto dos movimentos gerais do mercado. Deste modo, os fundos podem ter uma performance positiva independentemente da direcção do mercado;
- Estratégias de Mercados Emergentes implicam o investimento em mercados emergentes os quais tendem a apresentar uma inflação mais elevada e um crescimento mais volátil. Estas estratégias frequentemente não utilizam posições curtas ou cobertura do risco devido a restrições às vendas a descoberto que podem existir em muitos mercados emergentes.

Objectifs et politique d’investissement: Au moins 2/3 du portefeuille de ce compartiment seront investis dans des valeurs mobilières à revenu fixe ou variable représentatives d’emprunts libellées en EUR dont les émetteurs sont réputés de bonne qualité (investment grade – minimum BBB-/ Baa3).Les investissements effectués en valeurs mobilières libellées en une autre devise que l’euro feront l’objet d’une couverture adéquate des risques de change. Le compartiment peut également recourir, en vue d’une bonne gestion du portefeuille, aux techniques et instruments financiers liés notamment aux risques de change, de taux d’intérêts, de spread de credit et de volatilité (notamment Swaps (Currency Exchange Swaps - Interest Rate Swaps - Credit Default Swaps) - Forwards - Options - Futures) dans le cadre des limites qui sont fixées dans la rubrique « Couverture des risques et recours aux instruments financiers » du prospectus complet. Le compartiment pourra détenir à titre accessoire des instruments du marché monétaire ayant une échéance résiduelle inférieure à 12 mois ou des liquidités. La politique d’investissement veille à assurer une large diversification du portefeuille, et donc un contrôle maximal des risques spécifiques. Accionista
Ser accionista de uma empresa significa que se detém pelo menos uma acção da empresa. Também é algo que confere direitos.
Assembleia Geral Ordinária (AGO)
Reunião anual que todas as sociedades anónimas realizam num prazo de seis meses a seguir ao encerramento das contas do exercício. Todos os accionistas podem aí participar.
Capitalização bolsista
Consiste na multiplicação, a um dado momento, do valor de uma acção pelo número de acções que compõem o capital social da empresa. É o valor que a Bolsa atribui à empresa.
Cotação
Mecanismo que permite determinar o preço ou cotação de um título confrontando as quantidades oferecidas com as quantidades procuradas.
Valor
Preço de uma acção cotada a um dado momento. É o resultado da confrontação da procura (compra) com a oferta (venda).
Dow Jones STOXX
Os índices Dow Jones STOXX são uma família de índices europeus. Existem desde 1998 e são o fruto de uma associação dos três principais mercados da Europa continental, a SBF-Bourse de Paris, a Deutsche Börse e a Bourse Suisse, com o grupo norte-americano Dow Jones & Cie.

Securities Portfolio Statement
Document that indicates, for each security, the quantity and market price of the securities held at a given date.

Dividend, including fiscal credits, relative to the share’s market price.
Deferred Settlement Service

Source text - Portuguese 1. OBJETO CONTRATUAL
1.1. O presente contrato tem por objeto o fornecimento de serviços de Mão de Obra Temporária para suprir (acréscimo extraordinário de serviço e/ou substituição de pessoal regular e permanente), observando a necessidade transitória da TOMADORA, de acordo com a Lei No.6019 de 03.01.74 regulamentada pelo Decreto 73841 de 13.03.74, conforme descrito na proposta nº ____ anexa, que após devidamente assinada pelas partes, passa a fazer parte integrante do presente contrato:
1.2. A informação sobre o motivo justificador da necessidade transitória da TOMADORA e o número de trabalhadores temporários inicialmente contratados para a prestação de serviços é o descrito no ANEXO 01, que assinado pelas partes faz parte integrante deste contrato.
2. DOS SERVIÇOS PROPOSTOS
2.1. A PRESTADORA cederá à TOMADORA por até 90 (noventa) dias empregados de todas as especialidades técnicas e administrativas, nos locais previamente designados pela TOMADORA.
2.1.1. Havendo interesse da TOMADORA na renovação do Contrato Individual de Trabalho Temporário, a PRESTADORA deverá ser informada, através da solicitação onde esteja justificada a necessidade de renovação e no prazo de 30 (trinta) dias que antecedem a data do vencimento do mesmo, para fins de comunicação ao Ministério do Trabalho, conforme Instrução Normativa SRT/MTE nº 032 de 22 de abril de 2004.
2.2. O objeto Contratual é extensivo às demais filiais da TOMADORA e da PRESTADORA se houver, sendo que para a cobrança da prestação de serviço deverá ser emitida Nota Fiscal de acordo com os dados fiscais do respectivo estabelecimento solicitante, e em observância ao que prevê a legislação do Município onde ocorre a prestação de Serviço.
2.2.1. Para tanto, TOMADORA e PRESTADORA discriminam no ANEXO 02 a relação de suas filiais, contendo endereço completo e CNPJ.
2.3. A PRESTADORA disponibilizará, sempre que solicitada pela TOMADORA, pessoal devidamente habilitado, recrutado e selecionado de acordo com os critérios previamente estabelecidos pela TOMADORA.
2.4. O fornecimento dos serviços acima referidos será feito por escrito, mediante preenchimento das informações na "Ordem de Pedido" (modelo anexo), que deverá ser assinado pela TOMADORA e deverá descrever o perfil do profissional pretendido, bem como remuneração e valores dos benefícios que objetivem oferecer.
Translation - English 1. OBJECT OF THE CONTRACT
1.1. The present contract has as its object the supply of temporary labour services to substitute (exceptional increases in workload and/or substitution of permanent and regular personnel), in response to the RECIPIENT’s temporary need, in accordance with Law No.6019 of 03.01.74 regulated by Decree 73841 of 13.03.74, as described in proposal No. ____, annexed, which duly signed by the parties, is an integral part of this contract:
1.2. Information concerning the justifying reason for the temporary need of the RECIPIENT and the number of temporary workers initially contracted for the supply of services is described in ANNEX 01, which duly signed by the parties, is an integral part of this contract.
2. THE SERVICES OFFERED
2.1. The PROVIDER will provide to the RECIPIENT for a maximum of 90 (ninety) days workers of all technical and administrative specialities, at the locations previously designated by the RECIPIENT.
2.1.1. In the event that the RECIPIENT wishes to renew the Individual Temporary Work Contract, the PROVIDER must be informed, in a request containing the justification for necessity of the renewal and within the maximum period of 30 (thirty) days before expiration of this contract, for the purpose of communication to the Ministry of Labour, according to regulatory instruction SRT/MTE No. 03 of 22 April 2004.
2.2. The object of the present contract can be extended to affiliated companies of the RECIPIENT and of the PROVIDER, as the case may be, in which case for the receipt of the services supplied an Invoice must be issued according to the fiscal data of the respective requesting entity, and in compliance with the legislation of the Municipality where the services were provided.
2.2.1. For this purpose, RECIPIENT and PROVIDER have provided in ANNEX 02 a list of their affiliated companies, including full addresses and CNPJ numbers.
2.3. The PROVIDER will make available, whenever requested by the RECIPIENT, duly qualified personnel, recruited and selected according to criteria previously set out by the RECIPIENT.
2.4. The supply of services referred to above will be done in writing, through providing the information in the "Order Request" (form annexed), which must be signed by the RECIPIENT and must describe the profile of the professional requested, as well as the remuneration and value of the benefits that are to be offered.
