Source text - Portuguese Os critérios diagnósticos da CID-10 para abuso e dependência de substâncias psicoativas e para as comorbidades psiquiátricas foram utilizados como instrumento diagnóstico, visto ser este sistema classificatório o utilizado para fins de codificação em prontuário no sistema público de saúde brasileiro. Segundo este sistema classificatório, a característica essencial do transtorno de conduta é um padrão repetitivo e persistente de comportamento anti-social, agressivo ou desafiador. Tal comportamento, em seu extremo, deve alcançar violações importantes das expectativas sociais apropriadas à idade do indivíduo sendo, portanto, mais grave que travessuras infantis ou rebeldia normal na adolescência. Neste estudo, definiu-se como problemas de conduta na vida, como sendo a ocorrência, ao longo da vida, de pelo menos três dentre os seguintes problemas de conduta: expulsão escolar, atividades de roubo, histórico de prisão e tráfico de drogas. Estas três ocorrências foram selecionadas uma vez que são de constatação objetiva, seu relato independe de interpretação de gravidade da atitude e são muito freqüentes entre os usuários de drogas.
Translation - English ICD-10 diagnostic criteria for substance abuse and dependence, and for psychiatric comorbidities as well, were used as diagnostic tool, since this is the classification system used for coding medical records in the Brazilian public health system. According to this system, CD main characteristic is a repetitive and persistent pattern of antisocial, aggressive or defiant behavior. Such behavior, to its utmost limits, might reach relevant violations of social expectations appropriate to the age of the individual and, for this reason, it is more severe than child pranks or rebellion, common in adolescence. In this study lifetime conduct problems were defined as the occurrence over lifetime of at least three among the following conduct problems: school expulsion, robbery and/or theft activities, history of arrest and drug dealing. The selection of these three occurrences is justified by the fact that they are objectively verified, their report is independent of interpretation of attitude severity, and they are more common among drug users.
