Bio
Tomás Ayala-Torres has a BA in Music and MA in Translation both from the University of Puerto Rico and has an ABD Ph.D. in Aesthetic Studies focused on Translation and Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas. He has studied under Andrew Hurley, who translated the Collected Fictions of Jorge Luis Borges (Viking, Penguin); Rainer Schulte, compiler and editor of Theories of Translation and The Craft of Translation; Robert Nelsen writer and co-editor of Common Knowledge (a literary journal) and professor of Creative Writing; and Frederick Turner, poet and author of various books with an interdisciplinary approach to aesthetics, religion, and evolution, and translator of Foamy Sky: The Major Poems of Miklós Radnóti. Most of Ayala-Torres’s work as a translator is focused on poetry, short stories, and music history.
