I am a freelance translator, however, translation for me is not only an occupation, but rather a passion.
My love for foriegn languages started with my early childhood education as I had my school education in a renowned foreign languages school in Egypt where I was taught by foreign teachers and almost all communication took place in English. In my school, I acquired a quasi-native fluency in English, and mastered the French language. Then, in spite of opting for the science-focused courses in High School, I joined the prestigious Al-Alsun (Languages) Faculty, of Ain-Shams University, chosing to turn my passion for languages into a career in which I aspired to excel. In the university, I studied the art and science of translation as well as English literature and culture. And I took a minor in French.
While still an undergraduate, I worked as a part time translator in the Egyptian Authority of Energy and Electricity. This availed me of particularly huge experience with technical terms and concepts on which I built during my work as a freelancer. Upon graduation I trained at MITSCO Translation and Translation Centre where I later worked as a language instructor.
Though my experience is quite diverse, technical and medical texts form the bulk of my experience. I also have special interest in subjects related to marketing, education, child care, environment, food processing, and psychology.
Working as a translator since 1997, I have accomplished projects in a variety of fields.
In the technical domain, I have translated documents detailing maintenance procedures of Power stations and Substations (for the Egyptian Authority of Energy and Electricity), as well as texts related to operation and maintenance of various industrial equipment, (cranes, compressors, atomised lubrication systems.. etc), underground constructions, furniture industry, nuclear energy, automotive industry, information technology, in addition to numerous manuals of mobile phones, routers, scanners, printers, copiers, HDTV, I-pod accessories among others. I have also translated large volumes of comprehensive training material for workers in the domain of construction including masons, carpenters, electricians, and tile-setters.
Medical projects that I have handled include documentsdocuments about MIBG treatment, treatment plans for pediatric patients of various diseases and medical conditions such as Burkett Lymphoma, Neuroblastoma, and Epidermolysis Bullosa; consent forms for scanning neonates for diseases, children immunization and vaccination leaflets, consent forms for participation in medical procedures such as peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) collection, bone marrow collection, and Nucleated Cell or MonoNucleated Cell Collection (Harvest) for transplant in children, and clinical trials and experiments, such as Testicular tissue cryopreservation for fertility preservation; information sheets about a number of chemotherapy medications such as Cyclophosphamide, Cytarabine, Vincristine, etc, as well as informational brochures related to a number of diseases and medical conditions including cystic fibrosis, hepatitis, diabetes, multiple sclerosis; ear implantation surgeries, medical surveys about symptoms and effects of medications related to depression and hemophilia, forms for observation of patients, documents about kidney transplant for children detailing criteria for selecting patients for transplants, the surgical operation, preoperative and postoperative care and medications for patients, as well as similar documents for heart transplants, medicine sheets and feeding plans, care instructions for patients with Central lines and PICC, manuals and marketing documents about medical equipment (including Urodynamic systems, Electrical stimulation units, Analgesic electrical stimulation units, perineal electrical stimulation units, Normalised Balance Platform training and testing unit, cardiovascular imaging systems, pulse oximeters, computed tomography x-ray systems, and cochlear implants, among others). In addition, in the field of pharmaceuticals, I have experience translating leaflets of medicinal products (analgesics, antiseptics, teething gels, disinfectants, medical scrubs, suppositories, soft contact lenses solutions, anti-hypertension medication, R-enantiomer medications) and basics of pharmaco-vigilance.
Marketing is another domain where I have worked translating marketing material for a variety of products and services, ranging from a luxurious residential compound in Jumeirah Palm Island to every day brand names such as Wella, Gilette, Pampers, and Herbal Essence. I've also translated lifestyle related articles about such subjects as gourmet restaurants, jewelry, art and fashion.
I also have experience pertaining to social welfare and refugee support, environment, education, psychology, tourism, journalism, and foods and beverages, and official documents (business registers, birth certificates, school and university certificates, and driving licenses.
I have localized a number of websites
