What You Should Know About Smoking
at Round Rock Medical Center
Smoking is prohibited at Round Rock Medical Center within 10 feet of any building entrance and anywhere on the campus except for the following areas:
• Gazebo located outside the Emergency Department, on East side of the Medical Center.
• Gazebo located outside Service Exit, on the North side of the Medical Center (staff only).
These guidelines have been developed to improve the Round Rock Medical Center environment, to protect patients and others from secondhand smoke exposure, and to comply with smoking regulations. Your understanding and compliance is appreciated.
Smoking Statistics
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
Currently, an estimated 46.2 million, or 22.8 percent, of adults aged 18 years and older in the United States are smokers.
Tobacco-related illnesses claim an estimated 440,000 lives each year in the United States, including those affected indirectly, such as babies born prematurely due to prenatal maternal smoking and some of the victims of "secondhand" exposure to tobacco's carcinogens.
Smoking is responsible for an estimated one in five U.S. deaths and costs the U.S. over $150 billion each year in health care costs and lost productivity.

After 15 years of abstinence, the risk is similar to that for people who've never smoked.
