French to Spanish: L’alphabétisation en Communauté française General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Education / Pedagogy
Source text - French Analphabétisme, illettrisme… défis urgents à relever par nos sociétés. La Belgique n’est pas épargnée. Depuis une dizaine d’années, une attitude nouvelle oriente les buts et les pratiques des formations. Pourtant bien des lacunes restent à combler.
Des mots et des progrès
Analphabète… analphabête? L’homonimie facile cache une multitude de situations individuelles. Elle masque surtout l’échec du contexte sociopolitique actuel, principale cause de l’analphabétisme dans nos sociétés. En réponse à cette désignation imparfaite, la notion d’illettrisme est née en 1984 au sein d’ATD Quart Monde dans le but de conscientiser l’opinion publique à l’existence de ce problème de société.
La concurrence des deux termes n’en finit pas de susciter la polémique á cause des sous-entendus qu’ils charrient. En réalité, tous deux sont aussi larges l’un que l’autre. Leur mérite «est de nous faire voir autrement la réalité: l’analphabétisme n’est pas seulement le fait du tiers monde, il existe des analphabètes français. L’école apprend à déchiffrer mais elle n’apprend pas à lire [d’où le nom d’illettrés], elle est de ce fait inadaptée à une société de plus en plus exigeante; lire a changé de sens: ce n’est plus déchiffrer, c’est comprendre». (1) À ce titre, la définition de l’illettrisme proposée par J. Foucambert (vice-président de l’Association Française pour la Lecture) séduit par sa portée explicative: «absence de «culture de l’écrit». C’est le fait que des individus, bien que vivant dans une société de l’écrit sont exclus des raisons de cette communication». (2)
Aussi, l’analphabétisme doit être envisagé en intraction avec la société. Conséquence de ces définitions récentes, l’alphabétisation a connu une importante révolution dans les années 80 pour évoluer de plus en plus vers une lecturisation. J. Foucambert a construit ce néologisme sur lecture, comprise en tant que prélèvement et don de sens face à n’importe quel écrit en fonction du vécu individuel. Lecturiser, cést lutter contre l’alphabétisation trop longtemps limitée à l’apprentissage d’un code combinatoire de phonèmes-graphèmes au départ d’énoncés stéréotypés, hors-contexte et culturellement marqués (ex.: Ali a une Lada).

Palabras y progresos
¿Analfabeto… analfabestia? La homofonía facilona oculta multitud de situaciones personales y, sobre todo, enmascara el fracaso del contexto sociopolítico actual, la principal causa de analfabetismo en nuestras sociedades. Como réplica a este vocablo imperfecto, la organización ATD Cuarto Mundo acuñó en 1984 la noción de iletrismo con objeto de abrir los ojos de la opinión pública a la existencia de este problema en nuestras sociedades.
La concurrencia de estos dos términos no deja de suscitar polémica por los sobreentendidos que conllevan. De hecho, ambos son igualmente amplios y su mérito consiste en «hacernos ver la realidad de otra manera: el analfabetismo no es un fenómeno exclusivo del tercer mundo, existen analfabetos en francés. La escuela enseña a descifrar pero no enseña a leer [de ahí el término “iletrado”] y está por ello inadecuada a la realidad una sociedad cada vez más exigente. Leer ha cambiado de sentido: ya no es descifrar sino comprender». (1) En ese sentido, la definición de iletrismo propuesta por J. Foucambert (vicepresidente de la Asociación Francesa para la Lectura) nos convence por su alcance explicativo: «es la ausencia de una cultura de lo escrito. Es el hecho de que haya personas que, aunque viviendo en la sociedad de lo escrito, están excluidas de las razones de esa comunicación». (2)
Por otra parte, el analfabetismo debe ser contemplado en interacción con la sociedad. Como consecuencia de estas definiciones recientes, la alfabetización ha conocido una importante revolución en la década de los 80 para ir evolucionado gradualmente hacia una “lecturización”. J. Foucambert ha formado este neologismo a partir de la palabra lectura, entendida como captación y percepción del sentido de cualquier texto escrito en función de las vivencias individuales de cada uno. Lecturizar es luchar contra una alfabetización limitada durante demasiado tiempo al aprendizaje de un código combinatorio de fonemas y grafemas a partir de enunciados estereotipados, fuera de contexto y marcados culturalmente, por ej. “Ali a une Lada” (Alí tiene un Lada).

Source text - English 1964 Reigning Masters Tournament champion Arnold Palmer was 2-down after the first 18 holes of the 36-hole final, but egged-on by ‘Arnie’s Army’ he came back to defeat Britain's Neil Coles 2&1 for the £5,000 first prize in the first Piccadilly World Match Play Championship (WMPC) at Wentworth, England. Eight of the finest golfers in the world took part in the event that was to capture the imagination of spectators and TV viewers the world over.
1965 With a blaze of birdies on eight of the last 16 holes of the 36-hole final at Wentworth, South African Gary Player, holder of the US Open title, defeated Peter Thomson of Australia 3&2, the match ending when Player sank a 20-foot birdie putt for on the 34th hole. Tony Lema and Arnold Palmer were the beaten semi finalists.
1966 Gary Player trounced Jack Nicklaus 6&4 in the final in a barrage of birdies, with the ‘Golden Bear’ shooting 22 under par for the championship to the ‘Black Knight’s 20 under with Player winning all the crucial holes to take the £5,000 first prize for the second successive year.
1967 With ‘Arnie’s Army’ regrouped Palmer regained the crown he won in 1964, edging-out the unfortunate Peter Thomson of Australia, 2-up. Thomson, who won five Open Championships, was to become the best player never to win the WMPC
1968 In a high-scoring 36-hole final, Player overcame New Zealand left-hander Bob Charles by just 1-up for his hat-trick of WMPC titles.
1969 Bob Charles went one better than the previous year and became the only left-hander to win the WMPC. The 1963 Open Champion defeated American Gene Littler at the first extra hole and banked the biggest cheque in the event’s history - £5,750.
1970 For the first and only time Jack Nicklaus won the WMPC despite being outscored by Lee Trevino, who was estimated to be 25 under par for the tournament, winning 2&1.
1971 For the fourth time in eight years Gary Player won the WMPC, cruising to a 5&4 victory over defending champion Jack Nicklaus, confirming the dominance of the ‘Big 3’ – Palmer, Player and Nicklaus - in what was becoming a hugely popular sporting occasion. The prize fund had risen to £25,000 with Player banking a record £8,500.
1972 American Tom Weiskopf may have been something of a ‘dark horse’ coming into the 1972 World Match Play Championship sailed through the quarter and semi-finals before dispatching Lee Trevino 4&3 in the final.
1973 With the prize fund elevated to £30,000 for the tenth anniversary event, it was a fifth and final WMPC victory for Gary Player. It was a hard fought victory as the dogged Australian Graham Marsh, who outscored Player throughout, held on until the fourth extra hole before Player clinched the record £10,000 first prize.
1974 Gary Player was back in the final again but lost 3&1 to reigning US Open Champion Hale Irwin.
1975 Hale Irwin returned to Wentworth and saw off all-comers, defeating his compatriot Al Geiberger 4&2 in the final to retain his WMPC title.
1976 David Graham finally won the title for Australia by defeating the 1974 and 1975 champion Hale Irwin at the 38th hole, with the prize money increasing from £30,000 to £75,000.
1977 With a new sponsor, Colgate, and an extended field of 16, the prize fund increased to a record £130,000. It was to be another Australian, this time 1973 runner-up Graham Marsh, who triumphed winning 5&3 against 1969 US PGA champion Raymond Floyd, to collect the first prize of £30,000.
1978 Japanese star Isao Aoki brought colour and courtesy to the famous ‘Burma Road’ at Wentworth for the second and final WMPC under Colgate’s sponsorship, thwarting New Zealander Simon Owen’s with a 3&2 victory.
1979 Japanese drinks company, Suntory, came on board for a 12-year sponsorship of the world’s premier match play championship and their dream almost came true as Aoki made it to the final, only to lose 1-up to American Bill Rogers.
1980 Greg Norman started a new era for the WMPC defeating ‘home’ favourite Sandy Lyle by one hole in an epic 36-hole final.

Source text - English STATEMENT REGARDING GLOBAL ANTI-DOPING POLICY IN GOLF
Leading Golf Organisations Come Together to Develop Anti-Doping Policy for Golf.
St. Augustine, Florida - The major governing organisations in golf today announced that they have agreed in principle to an anti-doping policy for professional golf on a global basis that will be accomplished in two phases.
The first phase of the policy, which has been completed, encompasses the development of The Model Prohibited Substance and Methods List discussed later in this statement, a copy of which is attached.
The second phase of the Policy, which is anticipated to be completed prior to the end of this year, will include general standards for all the fundamental elements of an anti-doping program for golf organisations that become signatories to the Policy, while providing flexibility for such signatories to develop specific policies and procedures necessary or appropriate for their organisations. Such standards will encompass the Model Prohibited Substance and Methods List, as well as medical waiver procedures, testing protocols, results management, penalties, sanctions and reciprocity of outcomes.
Leading golf organisations who have lent their support, leadership and cooperation for the development of the Policy as a result of their representation on the Board of Directors of the World Golf Foundation and who will, subject to approval by their governing boards, become signatories to the Policy include:

The Model Prohibited Substance and Methods List (modified as necessary for individual golf organisations) will be incorporated into the respective tournament regulations of a number of signatories to the policy, effective in 2008. Player education and outreach on the Model Prohibited Substance and Methods List is ongoing and will be given increased emphasis by the signatories of the Policy moving forward.
An Anti-Doping office of the World Golf Foundation will be created in 2008, and will, among duties, coordinate and share information with golf organisations with respect to medical waiver procedures and therapeutic use exemptions under the Policy. Disciplinary procedures and penalties for violations of the Policy will be controlled and administered by the signatories to the Policy, and disclosed to other signatory organisations for consistency and coordination purposes. Testing protocols will also be within the purview of the individual signatory organizations and will be developed and approved by each organisation on an individual basis. It is anticipated that signatories who will be testing under the Policy will commence and activate their testing programs in 2008.

Both men are smoking, which Edith doesn’t like because she keeps waving the smoke away. Tew gets up, opens a window, and comes back with a whiskey bottle and two shot glasses. Edith shoots them a look of silent disapproval. Tew and Banting put on angelic faces, as Banting holds out his glass and Tew begins to pour.
TEW
The horse just stood there? Explosions going off every which way?
BANTING
All hellfire was breaking loose, and yet, the animal was as still as a statue. Christ almighty, you should’ve seen it!
Edith shakes her head, gets up, and starts clearing the table.
EXT. LONDON. ROAD. EVENING.
Banting, smoking, and Edith are walking arm-in-arm.
EDITH
You seem to have brought a few new habits back from overseas, Captain Banting.
BANTING
I have? Like what, Professor Roach?
EDITH
Well, smoking and swearing for starters, not to mention your readiness to take a drink or two.
BANTING
Oh, those vices are innocent enough. You should have seen the kind of trouble some of the other chaps from my unit got into. I’m a God-damned saint compared to them.
Banting winks at her. Edith stops walking abruptly.
EDITH
Swearing is undignified, smoking is a filthy habit, and drinking is illegal.
Banting lets out a small sigh, throws his cigarette to the ground steps on it, and pats Edith’s arm.
BANTING
Well, my dear, war wasn’t that much fun.

GREENS PROFILE
Greens are original push up greens built with native soil (1962)
Greens are creeping bent grass and Poa annua mix
Many years of sand topdressing has led to about a three inch sand layer below surface
Lower native soil has high level of clay and is made of decomposed granite
GREENS IRRIGATION
Greens are irrigated twice per week with irrigation system to match 80% of accumulated ET loss.
Post irrigation cycle they are hand watered with moisture meters to ensure that uniformity of distribution is maximized
During warmer times of the year greens are also syringed to offset the extreme desert heat.
Greens are flushed on a as needed basis based on visual inspection along with ec readings.
Acids, Amendments and wetting agents are used to help flush salts, sodium and carbonates
GREENS FERTILITY
Greens fertilization is based on growing conditions, soil and water testing, and daily test for playability.
Micronutrient needs are monitored through tissue testing based on historically data.
Fertilizer program is broken down into two categories.
– Plant nutrition
– Soil modification
CORE CULTIVATION
Greens are core cultivated six times per year.
Aerification schedule is
- March 1st, May 1st, June 1st, July 1st, August 1st, September 1st

- Greens are walk mowed 7-10 times weekly
Quality of cut is critical to health of plants
- Rollers are used no more than three times per week. Rollers are not used in periods of high summer stress
- Greens are vertical mowed and topdressed every 18-21 days, except in extreme heat and humidity
PLANT GROWTH REGULATORS
Three PGR are used Trimmit, Primo, and Proxy
Trimmit is used throughout months when Poa annua germination is possible.
Primo and proxy is used when green speeds are more critical such as tournaments.

PERFIL DE NUESTROS GREENES
Conservamos los greenes originales construidos en 1962 con tierra autóctona y sin líneas de drenaje.
Su hierba es una mezcla de Agrostis sp. y Poa annua.
A base de recebar con arena durante muchos años, se ha formado una capa de arena de unos 7 cm justo debajo de la superficie.
Debajo está el terreno original, formado por granito descompuesto con un alto componente de arcilla.
RIEGO DE LOS GREENES
Los greenes se riegan automáticamente dos veces por semana hasta reponer el 80% de las pérdidas acumuladas por evapotranspiración.
Terminado el ciclo automático, se riegan a mano utilizando medidores de humedad para asegurar la máxima uniformidad en la distribución del agua.
Durante los periodos más calurosos del año se utiliza agua pulverizada para contrarrestar el calor extremo del desierto.
Los greenes son inundados siempre que la inspección visual, combinada con las lecturas CE, lo requieran.
Se utilizan ácidos, enmiendas y agentes humectantes para ayudar a lavar las sales, el sodio y los carbonatos.
FERTILIZACIÓN DE LOS GREENES
La fertilización de los greenes se establece a partir de las circunstancias que condicionan el crecimiento de la hierba, la analítica del suelo y del agua y el control diario de la calidad de juego de su superficie.
Las necesidades de micronutrientes se averiguan mediante análisis de los tejidos basado en datos de experiencias pasadas.
El programa de fertilización abarca un doble objetivo:
– Nutrición de la planta.
– Modificación del suelo.
AERACIÓN
Nuestros greenes se pinchan seis veces al año.
El programa de aeración es el siguiente:
- 1 de marzo, 1 de mayo, 1 de junio, 1 de julio, 1 de agosto, 1 de septiembre.
- En septiembre y mayo se hace un pinchado profundo (hasta 30 cm) con Floyd McKay.
Recogida de tapones y recebo.
Resiembra con Agrostis sp. (variedades resistentes a la salinidad).
En los periodos más críticos para la hierba se utiliza el hydroject.
OTRAS PRÁCTICAS DE MANTENIMIENTO
- Nuestros greenes se siegan a pie de 7 a 10 veces por semana. La calidad del corte es esencial para la salud de la planta.
- El rulo se utiliza un máximo de tres veces por semana, y nunca durante el periodo crítico del verano.
- Cada 18 a 21 días se pasa la verticadora y se receba, excepto en los periodos de máximo calor y humedad.
REGULADORES DEL CRECIMIENTO DE LA PLANTA
Se utilizan tres: Trimmit, Primo y Proxy.
El Trimmit se utiliza durante los meses de germinación de la Poa annua.
El Primo y el Proxy se utilizan cuando la velocidad de los greenes es esencial (torneos).

3. Form of play
Team will be composed of 4 players, plus optionally one reserve. Each team may have a captain who may be a player or non-player but who must be an Amateur as defined in 1 (a) above.
The Championship will consist of two phases:
• four ball better ball, stroke play, Tuesday
• individual stroke play, Wednesday and Thursday.
Captains may place their players in any order they wish and must notify the Tournament Committee of this order by 5 p.m. on the previous day.
If by the end of the first day the captain has not handed in any order before 5 p.m., her players will play on the second day in the same order as on the first day and, if by the end of the second day the captain has not handed in any order before 5 p.m., her players will play on the third day in the same order as on the second day.
4. First phase – four ball better ball
One round of four ball better ball as stroke play.
The starting order of the 4BBB will be allotted by countries. The Tournament Committee has done this in advance.
The better score from each hole of the two players of a team will be counted as the result of the pair.
Every team has two pairs, which means two 4BBB results for the team (two scores).
5. Second phase – individual stroke play
The first day of the second phase
The starting order on the first individual stroke play of second phase will be allotted by countries. The Tournament Committee has done this in advance.
The three best scores will be counted as the result of the team (three scores).
The second day of the second phase
The starting order on the second individual stroke play of second phase day will be allotted by countries. The Tournament Committee has done this in advance.
a) The three best scores will be counted as the result of the team (three scores).
b) The results of all three days (eight scores) counted together will aggregate the total scores. Winner has the lowest total score.
c) In the event of a tie, the total of the four scores of the last day will count.
d) If there is a further tie, the total of the four scores of the second last day will count.
Then the best score of the last day will count. Then the second best score, and so on.

3. Forma de juego
Equipos de 4 jugadoras más una reserva opcional. Cada equipo puede tener una capitana que puede ser jugadora o no. En cualquier caso debe pertenecer a la categoría amateur como se establece más arriba en el apartado 3 a)
El campeonato consta de dos fases, ambas a medal play:
• doble mejor bola el martes
• individual el miércoles y el jueves.
Las capitanas pueden colocar a las jugadoras en el orden que deseen y deberán comunicar ese orden al Comité del Torneo la víspera antes de las 5 de la tarde.
Si al final del primer día la capitana no ha entregado un nuevo orden de juego antes de las 5 de la tarde, sus jugadoras jugarán el segundo día en el mismo orden que el primero. Si al final del segundo día la capitana no ha entregado un nuevo orden de juego antes de las 5 de la tarde, sus jugadoras jugarán el tercer día en el mismo orden que el segundo.
4. Primera fase - doble mejor bola
Una vuelta doble mejor bola medal play.
El orden de salida del doble mejor bola se establece por países. El Comité del Torneo se encarga de hacerlo con antelación.
El mejor resultado obtenido en cada hoyo por una de las dos jugadoras es el resultado de la pareja en ese hoyo.
Cada equipo presenta dos parejas. Cuentan los resultados de las dos parejas (las dos tarjetas).
5. Segunda fase - medal play individual
Primer día de la segunda fase
El orden de salida de la primera vuelta individual medal play se establece por países. El Comité del Torneo se encarga de hacerlo con antelación.
Cuentan los tres mejores resultados (tres tarjetas).
Segundo día de la segunda fase
El orden de salida de la segunda vuelta individual medal play se establece por países. El Comité del Torneo se encarga de hacerlo con antelación.
a) Cuentan los tres mejores resultados (tres tarjetas).
b) La suma de los resultados de los tres días (ocho tarjetas) es el resultado total del equipo. El equipo ganador es el que hace el resultado total más bajo.
c) En caso de empate, contarán los cuatro resultados del último día.
d) Si persiste el empate, contarán los cuatro resultados del segundo día.
Si sigue persistiendo, contará el mejor resultado del último día, luego el segundo mejor resultado y así sucesivamente.
