Source text - English The adequacy of the nation’s blood supply depends on maintaining a positive balance between supply and demand. In 2001, this margin was reported to be 918,000 units (6.3%),1 sufficient to meet increased demand, but lower than previous years.2 Although these data appear reassuring, the balance between supply and demand remains fragile as a result of increasing demands for red blood cell (RBC) transfusions and an aging population. Thus, cancellations of elective surgeries due to localized blood shortages are not uncommon.In 2001, 12.7 percent of hospitals reported that elective surgery was delayed 1 or more days due to blood inventory shortages.1 The median number of days during which elective surgeries were canceled because of blood shortages was 2 with a range of 1 to 150 days, which appears unchanged since 1997.2 Additionally, the task force formed in response to the September 11, 2001, attacks, recommended that a minimum 7-day reserve of RBCs be maintained as insurance in case of a disaster.3 Further, the emergence of new infectious threats to the blood supply often necessitates implementation of deferral criteria that reduce the pool of eligible donors, as exemplified by variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease and West Nile virus.4-6 Thus, maintaining an adequate supply remains a perennial high priority.

Se realiza el comentario del material clínico de Melina, una joven de diez y siete años.
Se observa que los trabajos escritos sobre clínica con adolescentes, a diferencia de los de clínica con niños, inician sus escritos explicando las coordenadas teóricas desde donde cada autor piensa este proceso.
Se analiza luego el material tomando los siguientes ejes: el trabajo específico de la adolescencia y sus antecedentes; la pérdida de “la protección familiar”; el duelo por “los padres” o la salida del Edipo.
Finalmente, coincidiendo con Peter Blos, se cita lo que este autor considera su contribución a la teoría psicoanalítica y recomendación clínica luego de tantas décadas de investigación.

Data from the Nurses' Health Study also suggest that daily aspirin could reduce the risk of colon polyps and colon cancer, and data from the New York University Women's Health Study suggest that it could reduce the risk of some types of ovarian cancer. Breach penalties
