Translation On Time or It's Free!

As an outsourcer, there's nothing more nerve-racking than assigning a job and not knowing if it will come back on time for your client. My on-time delivery guarantee is plain and simple. If you don't get your translation by the deadline, you pay absolutely nothing! Zero, zilch, nada!

English <--> Portuguese Translation

I'm a multi-talented translator specializing in banking, business, e-commerce, internet, education, marketing, tourism, medicine, law, and literature (mainly En->Pt-Br).

My working domains include anthropology, accounting, cinema/film, computers, cooking/culinary, finance, human resources, journalism, linguistics, telecommunications, and personal / academic documents .

Experience you can rely on!

I freelanced for renowned businesses and organizations in Brazil and the US. My latest job was with Assistech, an online company in which I served as an in-house translator and web developer, besides having other job responsibilities. In my free time I volunteer for Translators Without Borders.

Professionally Certified

As a Certified Pro, I maintain high professional standards. I have proven competence in both source and target languages, research, multicultural knowledge, and technical expertise. I contribute regularly to the translators' community by sharing my experience and answering peer questions on terminology. Here's a KudoZ example of how my intervention helped a colleague weed out a mistranslated term!

Bachelor of Letters in Translation

I earned a Bachelor's degree in translating and interpreting from Centro Anhanguera (São Paulo, Brazil) back in the 80s, and since then I've accumulated 15+ years of translation experience. My academic background in linguistics and translation theory & practice enables me to be more in tune with semantic, grammatical, and cultural details and nuances than for someone who hasn't gone through intensive training.

Master of Arts in TESL

I hold an M.A. in TESL (Teaching of English as a Second Language) from the University of Arizona. I taught ESL for many years in Adult Education at Pima Community College, English in a couple of private schools in Brazil, and Portuguese at the U of A.

US Residency

Having lived, worked, and studied in the US for nearly 30 years gave me a unique opportunity to hone my language skills by immersing myself in another language/culture and learning more about the American people, their history, values, and so on. Among other things, I worked in customer service, as well as a technical trainer for a long-distance carrier.

CafeTran Espresso

CAT Tool & Other Computer Software

For CAT, I use CafeTran Espresso; also versed in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, Movavi Video Editor, Audacity, FrontPage, GoAnimate, and YouTube Creator Studio.

Versatility

Besides translating, I consider myself well-qualified as an English blogger and copywriter. I also do movie and video subtitling, besides producing animated videos.

Ready for the Challenge

Every translation presents challenges — that's why you definitely want to trust your job to a certified professional who knows what they're doing!

I love what I do and always strive for the best. Top quality work, meeting deadlines, and professionalism are my pledge to you.

Besides translating, I do proofreading and editing with great diligence. I love the challenge of turning a raw piece into a gemstone.

I look forward to helping you with your projects. Feel free to contact me with any job-related questions or to request a quote.

Testimonials:

"I have great pleasure in recommending the work of Mr. Simões for translation from English into Portuguese. The work he has done for us recently has been of excellent quality and was carefully and thoughtfully produced. I have spent ten years in Brazil and have a good knowledge of the language and I have been impressed with the accuracy of Mr. Simões' work, also his ingenuity, in the case of song texts, in finding appropriate translations of the idiomatic expressions with which English abounds." - Dr. Marshall Cartledge, Up with People

"I have known Oliveira for 30 years and have always considered him a dedicated professional. Focused and hardworking, Oliveira excels in whatever endeavor he embarks upon. His English and (Brazilian) Portuguese proficiency level in writing, speaking, reading, and listening is above average. He loves written expression and welcomes opportunities to translate texts and also writing content from scratch." - Olivia Ramos, translator and outsourcer
