Background/qualifications and experience
Native French speaker with a postgraduate translation diploma from a French university (English/Italian > French) and a Diploma in Translation (English > French) from the Institute of Linguists (IoL).
Previously worked for 7 years as an in-house translator, project manager, checker/editor and proof-reader for a top London-based translation agency specialising in advertising and marketing.
Fields of expertise
advertising, marketing, media, PR, travel & tourism, telecommunications/IT (general), fashion/clothing, beauty/cosmetics, consumer goods.
Material translated as an in-house and freelance translator includes:
website content, online banners, online newsletters, promotional leaflets & emails, product description/retail brochures, press releases, TV & radio scripts, print ads, headlines & slogans, training material, market research documents, tourist leaflets and travel guides for companies such as Getty Images, Nike, HP, Dell, Sony, I-Play, HTC Touch Phones, Orange, InterCasino, Sportingbet, Montblanc, Ferrari, Opel, Lulu.com, Blackwell, BA, Eurostar, English Heritage, Flybe, Menard, Metropolis, etc.
Professional qualified translator who will only translate into her mother tongue, as this is the only language an individual can fully master.
Fine writing skills in French and extensive knowledge/understanding of the British English language and culture.
Reliability, accuracy, great attention to detail.
While the content, tone and style of the source text should be kept, it is equally crucial to take into account the cultural and linguistic specificities and nuances of the target language in order to ensure that the translation sounds as fresh and natural as the original.
Therefore whenever it is needed (which is in most cases!), I will move away from the original English/Italian copy, to make sure the texts I create flow well and do not sound like they are a translation – in fact it should be quite the opposite: the goal I set myself every time is that my translations should sound like they have been written in French originally.
