Source text - English First of all, common wheat and durum wheat are two different plant species. The scientific name of durum wheat is triticum turgidum, and for common wheat is triticum aestivum. The two species present very distinct genetics features, the most evident is the number of chromosomes: 42 in the common wheat and 28 in the durum wheat.
