Portuguese term

arruda? /aruda?

Portuguese to English Science
This is the name of a plant found in Brazil used for medicinal purposes. A friend asked me if I could find out what the name of this plant is either in English or Italian. Even the scientific name would suffice. Thank you in advance!

Rue

The correct form is ARRUDA, from RUDA (which is also acceptable). It comes from the Latin word "Ruta", which is also the botanical genus.
This plant is found not only in Brazil but also in Europe. There is even a well-known Portuguese twon near Lisbon called "Arruda dos Vinhos".
The Porto Editora Portuguese-English dictionary yields:

arruda, s. f. (bot.) rue; herb grace.

Arruda is used in Brazil to protect a person from the "Evil Eye".

This is the popular use, I have never heard of any medicinal use. It is common in Brazil to see people wearing a twig of the herb behind their ear, or using a live plant to protect their house or business establisment.
