dovrebbe essere questo (a intuito)...
siccome le lenti toriche hanno uno spessore variabile secondo la posizione che devono assumere nell'occhio, lo spessore esterno, del bordo, deve essere però costante per non causare fastidi al portatore.

Meglio ancora è dire "flangia esterna costante"

Mariangela, "flangia " è decisamente il termine corretto, quindi tieni per buona la mia seconda opzione (prima il termine non mi veniva...)
