From a text regarding the effect of vocal trainng on young children: They ( children) use greater lung excursion and take more frequent breaths. A google search did bring up lots of sites, offering tons of info on all kinds of "excursions", but they really fit my context. All suggestions appreciated!

Let me add to that: acc. to Bunjes, Exkursion describes die Beweglichkeit des Zwerchfells. That would fit in with your context of vocal training.

I found Atemexkursion under "excursion", subentry breathing excursion, in Bunjes.
Excursion = Exkursion (or Excursion) was also supported by Eihchhorst, Medical Dictionary.
A Google search netted one hit on Lungenexkursion:
