German term

Lohnabfüllung

German to English Tech/Engineering
Does anyone know the appropriate term in English for Lohnabfüllung? It means that the company bottles not only its own juices but those of other companies against payment, too.
Thanks in advance.

I do not know yet if this applies to bottling too but am checking. My oil company customers refer to the processing of oil products from one oil company by another oil company for money as "toll processing". The "toll" is like the "toll" for using the highways. Hamblock/Wessels and Romain show job/contract/commission processing or bottling but nothing with "toll". More later if I find anything in the Internet. - HTH - Dan

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks, Dan. You put me on the right track. Since the company both bottles and cans juice, I'll use "contract filling". See for example at http://www.purefruits.com.au/bottling.htm Contract Bottling Contract Filling Service for both Still and Carbonated Products "

contract bottling

"toll bottling" - zero Google hits

"contract bottling" - 171 mostly pertinent Google hits

"job bottling" - 13 Google hits

"commission bottling" - zero Google hits

"toll bottling" - zero AltaVista hits

"contract bottling" - 81 mostly pertinent AltaVista hits

"job bottling" - 15 mostly extraneous AltaVista hits

"commission bottling" - zero AltaVista hits

"contract filling" also got lots of Google and AV hits but mostly for chemicals, cosmetics and household products.

Based on this, I would use "contract bottling" - HTH - Dan

Bottling plant.

You´ve hit on the meaning yourself. Putting "Lohn" in front of a process in a business / industrial sense means that the company offers the process as a service to all comers. In your case the company offers the bottling process to other drinks manufacturers. I usually dont translate the "Lohn" part and just leave the functional description, ie. in this case "bottling". If you really needed to emphasise the fact that the srvice was being opffered as a product, I would use "services" as in "botlling services".
