Oil accounts for a large percentage of the world’s energy consumption, ranging from a low of 32% for Europe and Asia, to a high of 53% for the Middle East.
Other geographic regions' consumption patterns are as follows: South and Central America (44%), Africa (41%), and North America (40%).
The world consumes 30 billion barrels (4.8 km³) of oil per year, with developed nations being the largest consumers. The United States consumed 25% of the oil produced in 2007.
The production, distribution, refining, and retailing of petroleum taken as a whole represents the world's largest industry in terms of dollar value.

It was first made available to the Xbox system in November 2002.
An updated version of the service became available for the Xbox 360 console at the system's launch in November 2005, and a further enhanced version was released in 2013 with the Xbox One.
The service was extended in 2007 on the Windows platform, named Games for Windows – Live, which makes most aspects of the system available on Windows computers.
Microsoft has announced plans to extend Live to other platforms such as handhelds and mobile phones as part of the Live Anywhere initiative.
With Microsoft's mobile operating system, Windows Phone, full Xbox Live functionality is integrated into new Windows Phones that launched since late 2010.
The service shut down for the original Xbox on April 15, 2010, and original Xbox Games are now only playable online through local area network (LAN) tunneling applications such as XLink Kai.
The Xbox Live service is available as both a free and subscription-based service, known as Xbox Live Free and Xbox Live Gold respectively, with most features such as online gaming restricted to the Gold service.

Amateur film gauge introduced by Eastman Kodak.
In the camera, it was the same size with standard 16mm film but with double perforations.
At the picture area of a typical 16mm film, four frames of 8mm were recorded, two in the first run and two when turning the film cassette to the other side to expose the other half width, much like audio cassettes are used.
When processed, it was slit lengthwise to produce a double length (usually 50ft) Regular 8mm film for projection.
A better variant, Super 8mm was introduced by Eastman Kodak in 1965.
This had smaller perforations which allowed for 50% increase of the image size and hence more detail could be recorded.
The larger frame also allowed for larger projection sizes than were possible with standard 8mm (called Regular 8mm) film.
