I established American Arts English Translations to fulfill my dreams as a professional translator. My extended resources include editors who are trained writers and highly educated native speakers of both Spanish and English.
We specialize in Spanish into English translations for marketing and advertising, journalism, the arts, travel and tourism, cooking and culinary arts, and prose literary works. Our expertise includes the ability to produce all kinds of marketing and advertising materials for print or online publication in the United States—from brochures and blogs to books. It is my goal to help my clients communicate effectively with diverse audiences in the above areas.
EXPERIENCED WRITER IN DIVERSE GENRES
Unlike translators who have narrow experience in certain styles of English, I offer diverse skills and life experience to my clients, along with a bachelor's degree in English Writing and intensive language studies in Spanish and translation. Added to my formal education are decades of work and participation in multiple communities: business, the arts, advertising, and education. As a result, my writing and vocabulary fulfill a wide range of translation needs. I have the knowledge and sensibility to connect with the intent of writers in multiple genres, and I can express complex and profound concepts in English. I am a professional writer in my native language. My translations pay close attention to correctness in contextualized word choice, grammar, phrasing, idioms, and organization.
Memberships in the American Literary Translators Association and the Colorado Translators Association continually provide professional and personal inspiration, and enable me to stay up to date with changes in the world of translation. I stay on top of the latest recommendations for software and resources that I can add to my translation toolbox.
DESIGN TO PRINT OR WEB
As a graphic artist, I produced advertising and marketing materials for the printing industry, education, galleries and museums, artists, commercial photography and advertising, and a museum of Latin American arts. Before becoming a translator, I was contracted to complete the printing and publishing process for a book on Guatemala by an internationally known author and photographer, and by an acclaimed nutritionist for a cookbook featuring my own photographs. As a business owner and program director, I wrote, designed, and produced all of my own promotional materials including catalogs, brochures, websites, newspaper articles and blogs, email blasts, and newsletters.
In 2012, I earned my university degree in English Writing with a Spanish Minor, and in 2016-17 I completed required coursework for a Certificate in Spanish Translation at Metro State University of Denver. I expect to earn Spanish-English certification through the American Translators Association by May 2018. During my studies in Spanish at the University of Colorado in Denver, I read and wrote about Colombian, Mexican, Argentinian, and Peruvian literature, becoming an avid reader and appreciator of authors from Latin America. I am TEFL certified and certified in adult education through the State of Colorado.
I am an emerging professional, but I have already published a literary essay in a comprehensive documentary on Latin American film, and am in the process of publishing a book of short stories. I am developing strong connections with a literary group in Colombia. I will soon post a portfolio that includes business and marketing materials.
My personal life has revolved around visual arts, music, philosophy, literature, international travel and the outdoors. My favorite activities include reading and speaking in Spanish, writing, and sharing ideas with people from around the world.
