English to Spanish: Environmental Initiatives in South East Asia - Introduction
Source text - English Large cities in Asia today collectively serve as a driving force of the world economy. They are, however, increasingly confronted with a myriad of serious environmental problems associated with rapid urbanization and industrialization, such as poor health conditions in slums and squatter settlements, water pollution, traffic congestion, and air quality deterioration, just to name a few.
In recent years, the focus of environmental debate in Asia has evidently shifted from what is happening and why it is happening to what steps should be taken to improve the situation and how to accelerate the pace of environmental improvement. Effective technical responses are available to address virtually all environmental problems facing Asian cities. In many cases, such as water supply, sanitation, and urban transportation, such responses have existed for decades.
One of the major bottlenecks Asian cities are commonly facing has been institutional and relates to the form and processes associated with the outmoded style of environmental management. Hence, efforts have been increasingly made to improve the institutional capacity of major actors in urban environmental management. Three approaches can be identified:
(a) To enhance the capacity of community-based organizations through encouraging and supporting collective efforts towards improving housing and neighborhood environment;
(b) To strengthen local governments by decentralizing policy, planning, and implementation authority to municipal and metropolitan levels; and
(c) To create policy environment wherein economic instruments can be effectively applied together with regulatory mechanisms for urban environmental management.
(a) Mejorar la capacidad de las organizaciones comunitarias alentando y apoyando esfuerzos colectivos tendientes a mejorar el ambiente de vecindarios y viviendas;
(b) Fortalecer los ayuntamientos mediante una política descentralizada, planificación, y autoridad de implementación a nivel metropolitano y municipal;
English to Spanish: The Art of Selling
Source text - English Selling your income property should be as profitable and smooth as possible. We understand how important this decision is to you and will work closely with you to guide you through the sales process from start to finish, sorting out all the details along the way. At XX Corp., we believe that good relationships are the foundation for a great business – and we will prove that to you at every step of your sales process.
First Steps
When we first meet with you, Doris and I will show you an analysis of the current market. We will compare your property to other recent sales to determine the best listing price for your building. We’ll also review our listing agreement with you in depth, explaining unfamiliar items to make sure there are never any surprises.
Once you sign the listing agreement, we’ll present you with a list of information and documents we’ll need from you to help us market your building. Then we’ll explain different ways you can minimize the tax consequences of your sale. Should you decide to reinvest your money through a tax-deferred exchange, we’ll help you find the exchange firm that is right for you. And we’ll even help you find your new investment property!
Marketing Your Property
In order to market your property, we will need access to a few units to give potential purchasers a fair representation of the appearance and condition of the building as a whole. After working with you to choose units to show, we will speak with the tenants of each unit and coordinate acceptable showing hours and rules. Doris and I appreciate that each tenant’s apartment is his/her home, so we will show him/her the same respect we would to any homeowner listing a property with us.
Senior English→Spanish linguist with 30 years of professional practice: AI evaluation and multimodal QA, interlingual subtitling and subtitle QC, and game and technical localization, in es-419, es-US and es-MX. I have been translating since 1995, including 16 years as a preferred vendor for one of the world's largest language service providers. My current focus is linguistic QA and evaluation for AI. I review, score and annotate audiovisual content — video subtitles and voiceover — in Amazon SageMaker against defined scoring guidelines, and I evaluate AI-generated images and materials. This work is multimodal (text, image, audio and video), a rarer profile than text-only evaluation. On the localization side I handle interlingual subtitling and subtitle QC — condensation to character and reading-speed limits, segmentation and line-break discipline, in-context preview and synchronization checks — creative game localization, including SINoALICE, the narrative mobile RPG by Square Enix / Pokelabo directed by Yoko Taro, plus technical documentation, marketing adaptation and MTPE. One specialty worth flagging: since the 1990s I have worked with English-pivot copy of Japanese-origin source (JA → EN → ES), from industrial and consumer-electronics documentation to game narrative. I am trained to spot where the pivot stage has introduced calque, ambiguity or register drift, and to query it rather than carry it into Spanish. Domains: technical, medical, legal and marketing. End-client sectors have included cybersecurity, financial services, telecom infrastructure, aerospace, mining, medical imaging, industrial coatings and consumer electronics. Client names available on request, subject to confidentiality. As founder of César Translations I coordinate translation and QA teams and can scale capacity on short notice for launch volume, on ISO 17100:2015-aligned workflows. Tools: Wordfast Pro, Subtitle Edit (MediaNext), memoQ, Amazon SageMaker. I welcome projects in AI data QA and evaluation, subtitling and QC, and EN→ES localization.
