Born and raised in Kelowna, BC, Canada, Robert received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1991 from the University of Victoria. During his final year he was also awarded a Rotary Foundation ambassadorial scholarship to study German history and politics at Heidelberg University. A career in applied linguistics began to beckon, and within a few years Robert earned a Bachelor of Translation degree from the Department of Translation and Interpreting of the Faculty of International Business and Communication at Zuyd University of Applied Sciences in Maastricht, the Netherlands.

Robert proceeded to cut his teeth in the translation industry and be sworn in as a certified translator at the District Court of Breda. More than 10 years after leaving Canada, he and his then young family relocated to his hometown to start DNV. A member in good standing of the Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia (STIBC) and the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO), Robert has been certified since 2010 for Dutch-English translations and works as Senior Translator at DNV.
