Bio
Since qualifying in 2001, I have proofread various types of English language texts, including those translated from other languages into English. When I started I had already been working as an EFL teacher for a few years, then started proofreading short translated texts for Noorderlicht, a translation agency in the Netherlands. My first big job for an Irish publisher was to proofread a scientific encyclopaedia on global warming, later I worked other scientific and educational publications for the same employer. Since then I have worked part-time (studied full-time) for Noorderlicht mainly, proofreading and occasionally translating articles from Dutch in to English.

I have some specialist knowledge in Fine Art, and am interested in many many fields!

I fell into translation by default. Noorderlicht and I originally came into contact when they needed someone to proofread and generally improve English text, later they asked me if I could translate a press release from Dutch into English. The client was extremely satisfied with this text and from then on I was regularly asked to work on translate 'human' text, particular consumer magazine articles, press releases, tourist information.

During 2011, 2012 and 2013 I also worked with a Dutch author to produce an English translation of her academic publication. I translated approximately two-thirds of the text into English, and edited the rest which had been translated by a Dutch native speaker. Please contact me for more information. The subject matter included gender studies, anthropology, archaeology, art history.

I use Trados 2009 for translation only, and prefer to use MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel for proofreading/editing work.
Keywords: Qualified proofreader in English, also Dutch-English translation carried out. I also have a BA in German and French, and have translated from both of these languages.
