Sistema de Posicionamiento Global

Explanation:

Explanation:
"elacombe" is partly right: for some time, this was used in Mexico (en español) as "GPS". However, the concept is now more widely known and I have done several government translations here (Army,Navy, and Ford Motor Company) and they are now calling it:
"Sistema de Posicionamiento Global" or "SPG".

Hope this helps:-)

localizador GPS

Explanation:
What is GPS?

The first GPS satellite was called GPS Block I. Launched in 1978, it was a developmental satellite. Another nine Block I satellites were launched through 1988.

GPS, which stands for Global Positioning System, is the only system today able to show you your exact position on the Earth anytime, in any weather, anywhere. GPS satellites, 24 in all, orbit at 11,000 nautical miles above the Earth. They are continuously monitored by ground stations located worldwide. The satellites transmit signals that can be detected by anyone with a GPS receiver. Using the receiver, you can determine your location with great precision.

GPS is one of history's most exciting and revolutionary developments, and new uses for it are constantly being discovered. But before we learn more about GPS, it's important to understand a bit more about navigation.

GPS receivers are becoming consumer products. In addition to their outdoor use (hiking, cross-country skiing, ballooning, flying, and sailing), receivers can be used in cars to relate the driver's location with traffic and weather information. Here are some Web locations that describe GPS receiver products:
